Two mexicans, two very skilled technicians, two offensive fighters, both good combination punchers, great body punchers.....
I´m a big fan of both...

    featherweight bout
    15 rounds

    Thoughts ?

Saldivar is too strong and too powerful for Marquez, and stays one step ahead of JMM to earn hard fought UD

    Good point Drew !!

But, in my opinion, Marquez is the better counter puncher and has faster hands, and was more accurate........
Saldivar had a better stamina maybe, and the better jab.......

So, in my view.......Marquez could win because the counters.......I can remember Saldivar vs Seki, and Saldivar looked vulnerable against combinations in close range......very static !

But Marquez never faced any southpaw with Saldivar´s jab......

I'd say Saldivar has the better handspeed and certainly footwork, footspeed and balance. He's much better able to fight in all directions.Compare his fights with pure boxers to Marquez's toiling against John

MArquez bigger and rangier. He puts extended textbook combos together more often, but i wouldn't say he's a better combo puncher, it's just a slightly bigger part of his style, where Saldivar often favours the left hand lead down the pipe.

Would be a fine fight, but i give Vicente the clear edge over 15.I've never seen Marquez do anything comparable to his wearing down and brutalising of the very talented and physically awesome Sugar Ramos at feather. His performances against technicians are far more impressive than Marquez' as well...Saldivar would have savaged the past prime Barrera that Juan Manuel fought competitively with imo.

hard fought through ten, possibly a classic, but saldivar dominates the last third to take a clear decision or late KO for me.

Interesting points Lora.....I agree about past-prime Barrera vs Saldivar.....totally

And oh, Saldivar was awesome, what a fighter !
His sense of judging distance is outstanding......In the long range Vicente would win a clear decision.......
I dont know how to define Saldivar´s pace, he was very economical at times, but sometimes he works at a very very fast pace ! Very versatile !

Maybe you disagree now, but I think you could make a case for Marquez being more sharper.....

Saldivar was a small Marciano..he'd have ultimately overwhelmed JMM and stopped him late ..in the 14th or 15th.

No disrespect to you Vic-JofreBRASIL, but the fight should be for 15 rounds.

I agree that JMM has the crisper combinations down the middle, especially when thrown as counters.

Good post how I see it.

    Bump
Tough match up for both of them but I favor Saldivar to decision JMM in a fast paced chess match.

Well you can tell from my avatar who I favour, I'm trying not to be biased but the way I see it. Pacquiao has got to be H2H top 10 greatest Southpaw ever, and if Marquez can deal with Pacquiao. I think Marquez could deal with Saldivar's Southpaw style also, it would be a very close match up but I'm going with JMM.

Good thought out case for a JMM win, and hard to come up with a counter ( no pun ) argument, and has led to me fancying your fighter to be victorious, whereas prior to your observation I was leaning towards Saldivar.
    stay safe buddy.

Over 15, Saldivar would be better prepared for the last three rounds, so I say, close but unanimous 15 rounds decision for Saldivar, which would be no shame in Marquez's record.

Marquez losing to Saldivar would be as shameful, or shall I say, not shameful, as Barrera losing to Marquez was.
