Roy Jones. Pac had already been stopped before, Roy was still looked at as Superman.

i would say Roy Jones. especially since Tarver wasn't like a heavy handed knock out artist or anything.

For sheer brutality, gotta go with Marquez over Pac.
That was one of the top 3 knockouts I've ever seen in a boxing fight .

As far as historical impact, gotta go with Tarver v Jones. It signified the end of an era of p4p dominance.
Pac on the other hand came back and fought for nearly another decade, and still had major fights and major victories to add to his legacy

Got any excuses tonight Roy? Makes it so much more brutal in hindsight.

    Hands down.

People who knew Sugar Ray Robinson were saying that Roy Jones was the best fighter who ever lived after he beat John Ruiz. (That sounds funny now, but it's true.)

But when Tarver wasted Jones in two ... that topic of discussion was all but "wiped" from the internet. :hang

That was a shockingly fun night.

I think both were just as shocking TBH and came completely out of the blue. Yes Pacquiao had been stopped before when he was young, but for over a decade he had never visited the canvas. And had took hellacious shots without doing down, so Marquez being able to KO him when he couldn't in 3 other attempts was something no one could predict.

Whilst the Jones KO was just as shocking because of his aura of invincibility. Jones had shown some vulnerability against Tarver in their previous fight where he came close to losing.

Overall I guess most people would pick the Tarver KO which is probably the right answer. But honestly I think they're both just as shocking as eachother, because I don't think anyone could've predicted that outcome for either fight.

Tarver was heavy handed his power is a bit underrated, he stopped Eric Harding in only 5 rounds. Another fighter Tarver stopped left on a stretcher I can't remember his name, and he stopped Jonathan Banks at Heavyweight. If Tarver hit you flush with his left hand he would put most Light Heavyweights in serious trouble.

Chris Johnson, the Canadian Olympian, who never fought again after he got carried out on a stretcher after Tarver stopped him. That bout was on ESPN's Friday Night Fights.

That was his name thanks for the clarification I remember that vividly, Tarver could hit with that left hand he had underrated power.

I think for me Jones was more shocking because I couldn't believe he got caught like that. A punch he would have avoided before.

But looking back, the signs were obviously there. 35 years old and losing all of that weight didn't help. Everyone slows down at some point.

I don't know if the signs were there. Roy Jones fought a lot of guys (big punchers) over a lot of years during his amateur and pro careers and that never happened until Tarver did it.

    It was jarring.

And after Tarver did it, it was almost like Roy Jones never really recovered fully from that punch.

Jones certainly hadn't come close to being recovered by the time he fought Glen Johnson a couple months later, and a nearly identical KO happened.

At some point, when a fighter gets injured, he never really recovers all the way. That was certainly the case with Roy Jones.

Some people look at all the later KOs and think Jones was always chinny, and he just covered up for it with his athleticism. But he wasn't chinny before that. That punch from Tarver made Jones "chinny" for the rest of his days.

After that punch, something broke ... and it never got fixed.
