An in shape Nunn is the wrong style for Joe- over six foot southpaw with speed. People point out the Liles loss but I thought Nunn edged that in a close fight. Nunn is also alot better of a body puncher then given credit for. I think Nunn takes a very close decision in a very good fight.
Calzaghe had faster hands than anyone Nunn beat, his southpaw style would confuse Nunn too, he also threw a great 1-2 landing the 1 to Kessler`s body and the straight left to the head Nunn`s reach would bother Joe though as he would have a 4 inch advantage, he wasn`t much taller than Joe though being 6`2 while Joe stood at 6ft, Joe would out-point him with too much work-rate.
JC was alot more BUSY but he was not really faster then say a Kalambay or even a Liles per say. Nunn also had an incredible 77inch reach where JC tops out at 73 and that would come into play. Nunn simply beat the better fighters its really that simple and Nunn moved around the ring pretty good. JC isnt going to walk in on Nunn and he isnt going to outspeed a Nunn either thats asking alot. And the thing that you leave out is Nunn hits harder then JC.
Michael was hit and miss at SMW. But he was a tough out for anyone when focused. Did Joe ever fight a world class southpaw in his career? This fight would have been very intriguing. Joe never saw a fighter as gifted, and of that size.
Calzaghe threw fast combos Kalambay and Liles didn`t, Kalambay was a negative counter puncher and his speed wasn`t a facteor v Nunn cause the fight finished in the 1st round, Nunn is not going to finsh a fighter in the first round who came back off the floor v a super middle banger like Brewer. Kalambay may not have been competative at SMW.
Victor Córdoba. Frankie Liles. Gracianio Rochigianni. He never fought Reggie. The Liles fight could have gone either way. Which world class southpaw did Joe fight? Mario Veit? Was he even world class? Nunn was a very gifted southpaw with great speed and skills, with height and a very big reach at the weight. Something that Joe had never seen. Forget just being a southpaw, Joe never saw a guy as gifted as that, even if he did blow hot and cold. The majority of Joe’s opponents were lower level guys.
I liked Brewer but he had an AWFUL chin that let him down hence when he got knocked out by BEASLY in under three rounds. Graham also dropped him multiple times.
