By weight classes at the time of Mike Tyson's reign, Gassiev even at CW even including his cut to 200 would be a HW, CWs in Tyson's day were 190 pounds and did same day weigh ins. He likely weighed as much or more than Tyson in his CW days. ^Not saying that as a prediction, just that weight classes are often unrepresentative of the true reality of fighters from different eras.
Mike didn't like fights when they got tough. Gassiev has a granite chin, never been remotely hurt ever. If Gassiev hurt Tyson, Tyson would look for a way out as usual.
On what planet would Murat Gassiev have the stones to challenge a prime Mike Tyson? Gassiev turned down an eliminator last year with Hrgovic and fought 40-year-old Carlouse Welch instead. Gassiev just fought a 40-year-old nobody in Mike Balogun and then called out 40-year-old, loser of four of his last five, 13-loss journeyman Derek Chisora. Gassiev, in a million years, would've never challenged a 20-something, 37-0 terror that was a prime Mike Tyson. He'd never agree to such a fight. Hell, Murat not only won't agree to fight anyone in any org's heavyweight top 10 now, he isn't even asking to fight anyone in the top 10, and there isn't a young, undefeated Mike Tyson-esque fighter among them.
Hi Gassievs number 1 hater. Bizzare how you hate a top fighter and really nice guy so much. Newsflash, Gassiev is not backed by any top promoter, he gets zero opportunities given to him on a plate and hes from a country that is blacklisted in boxing. Hes a granite chinned big punching warrior who has faced the likes of Usyk, Lebedev, Dorticos. I'm sure he wants to test himself against the best at Hw too.
Gassiev isn't rated in the top 10 by anyone, so "top fighter" is a stretch. In fact, he was handed a heavyweight title eliminator "on a plate" last year (against Hrgovic) and turned it down to fight a 40-year-old nobody. (Be honest, had you ever heard of Carlouse Welch before that? No, of course you hadn't.) Gassiev is a former cruiserweight champion who made two whole defenses. And, for the record, I wouldn't take any of the current cruiserweight champions - Jai Opetai, Badou Jack, Lawrence Okolie or Arsen Goulamirian over a PRIME Mike Tyson, either. And Goulamirian and Okolie have made as many defenses as Gassiev did. When Gassiev decides to fight anyone at heavyweight, let me know. His last cruiserweight fight was five years ago. You had to have more stones than that to challenge (and beat) a prime Mike Tyson.
