How good was Carl froch and is he a p4p UK boxer

Average skill, great engine, freak of a chin that got him by.

 

He was a superb fighter, wish we had more like him.

 

One thing I will add about Froch is that he had that cocky, stone-faced kill-me-if-you-dare attitude to go along with the grit, determination, and unorthodox skill. He was coming for blood when he walked to that ring and we knew we were in for a show.

 

I was in wembley, as soon as groves folded I was up and out of that seat and toward the entrance before froch could say 80 thousand....

Wasn't getting caught in that crowd. Lol

 

Exactly, Froch was old school tough.
It's like football these days- full of Fanny's who throw themselves to floor at the slightest touch

 

As tough as they come, fantastic to watch.

 

He had quite a good unorthodox jab with a tucked in chin and a low left hand which got him through Brit/euro level. I always thought he’d get found out with that at world level and Taylor was the one to pay him for that. That night though Froch proved himself world class to stop Taylor in the last few seconds of the fight.
Ward was a spoiler and had the right game plan to beat Froch, no shame in that. The direll fight was so boring but at least Froch forced the action and was champion so he deserved his hand being raised.

I still think calzaghe would’ve boxed froch’s head off for 12 rounds prime for prime but if Froch had fought calzaghe around the same time Roy jones jr did then who knows?

 

His brother was a p4p (pint for pint) great

 

Froch was ****ing brilliant.

Hard as granite with a great engine and could crack a bit as well. He also doesn’t get the credit he probably deserves in terms of boxing ability as you don’t medal in the amateur world championships if you can’t box.

However most importantly and what I think he deserves the upmost respect for is that he would fight absolutely anyone.

The stretch of back to back world level fights he put together just proved that he was a true throwback fighter.

 

Harder than a coffin nail, terrific engine, unshakeable belief, late round punching power.........you can't say he wasn't elite, only lost to two great fighters, arguably shouldn't have gone out to fight Kessler, given the less than ideal circumstances, but did anyway, a genuine road warrior.

Old school upbringing, top amateur, British champion, before stepping up.

Fought a murderers row of fighters, and aside from the occasional daft stuff he says, is dryly funny.

A live dog against pretty much anyone not named Ward or Calzaghe, and even then he'd always be in the fight.

 

I've never sat down and properly thought about this, but if you take Lennox out of the equation, I think Froch is the best British boxer of all time. I know there's some old school legends to consider, but Froch wasn't some HE KNOCKED ALI DOWN WITH A LEFT 'OOK. This bloke had a legitimately deep resume, had several memorable stages to his career, faced and came back from adversity and was a unified/multiple-time world champ

Unlike Calzaghe, Eubank, Fury etc. Froch's career has no caveats. No weak, undefeated record. No 1990s WBO title. No lineal bollocks. He's also one of those British boxing commentators who actually had a stellar career, unlike Haye or Bellew - although I do think Haye's career has become a bit underrated in recent years

Froch has become a bit of a meme in recent years... and that's fine... but please don't forget his accomplishments in the ring. It's like when people go over the top shitting on Oscar

He's one of the few British boxers I would genuinely love to spend 30 seconds chatting to and get his autograph. I have no interest in half of the glorified tossers our island has produced

I think Froch beats Calzaghe, but people will always claim Calzaghe beat a better Kessler and I struggle to argue against that

 

The Pride of Wales Joe Calzaghe was above Froch in my opinion.

Great handspeed, better skills and better boxing intelligence.

Froch was a warrior who ducked nobody but great boxers have his number - Ward was one and Calzaghe would have done him as well.

 

Haye and Bellew didn’t have stellar careers ? Are you joking ?

 

No, Haye didn't have a stellar career, but he is treated like a literal joke by boxing fans today which is sad given his unified cruiserweight and heavyweight titles. The fact you have scum like John Fury clowning Haye is disgusting

Anyway, back onto Frochy...

 

Haye was a Hall of Fame Cruiserweight and although he won a Heavyweight Title by landing one punch, he stunk out the Heavyweight Division and tarnished his legacy.

That legacy was sold out completely with the double farce against Bellew for the purpose of Box Office Loot.
