I truly believe that if they get it on and deliver a fantastic, fight of the ages type fight with a definitive ending, it would go a good way towards getting boxing a bit of respect back and also getting some new fans on board. To me, this is the most important fight since way back. Boxing, imo, needs this fight to happen. Knowing who the man is at HW is an important element in keeping boxing fresh & exciting for casuals.
Could be, but the later they announce it just makes things unecessarily hard for anyone wanting to be at Undisputed that lives outside the UK. Sure, Fury's side might not care if the fans are limited to day trippers from around the UK, but Usyk's might.
I'd be pretty surprised if that was a driving force behind any of this, which would certainly be a bit inconsiderate in that light. I doubt that's a big priority though. I like @Mister Pugilist 's idea of a soccer game announcement between the two home nations of each champion.
What a coward Fury is. Shameful. I told everyone he was rattled since Usyk pissed on his parade and he got all pissy about it.
Hopefully that is the case. But can you imagine if the Mayweather v Hatton announcement had been held off until 5 weeks before the fight. There would have been uproar from his travelling army.
I read the report from Usyk's management, and am gutted. I don't think that is 100% confirmation it is off just yet, so I will give it the deadline. If the fight isn't made, I will blame Fury, change my profile picture, and root for Usyk if the fight ever does happen. This is a disgrace. Holding breath until then though...
True. But I think that's a bit of an extended analogy that isn't necessarily applicable here. I'm sure the marketing strategy for Mayweather-Hatton probably factored that in. Curiously, would there be a lot of Ukainians traveling to watch this fight in the UK under present conditions? Are there many/any examples of a British boxer facing a non-Brit at Wembley? And if so, what percentage of the audience would constitute non-Brits traveling from abroad? I understand that with this being an historical undisputed world heavyweight championship bout, that it may perhaps appeal to a wider international audience than I'd imagine? (Audience, meaning, those actually in attendance).
Because the sanctioning bodies are hopelessly corrupt, and they don't rank based on merit. It's pay to play.
