The one and only fight worthwhile on the horizon is Tank vs. Garcia. The lower weight divisions are the only one where guys regularly want to fight each other without waiting for father time to score the first victory. Everyone else is content to fight on social media. The Undisputed Biatch of 140 doesn't want to give Catterall a rematch. Crawford and Spence aren't fighting each other, or anyone of note. Charlo hasn't fought in 2 years. GGG just vacated a title, clearly looking for cash out fights now. Canelo wants no part of Benavidez. Beterbiev/Smith is a waste of a fight. Bivol has no opponent announced yet. And then there's heavyweight................ Heavyweight seemed poised for a good 2023. What's happened instead? The perfect time to make the first undisputed fight in almost 25 years and it doesn't get done. Wilder/Ruiz are or are not fighting, AJ is taking confidence builders for a payday fight later, Joyce is being fed Zhang when he should probably be fighting Hrgovic. One of them might do a circus fight with Ngannou.
How are you defining "worthwhile"?? We have, on the horizon, Inoue-Butler, Canelo-Ryder, Joyce-Zhang, Tank-Garcia, Loma-Haney. Those are all worth anyone's time. As to your wider point though, yeah, I am pretty fed-up with boxing. Spence-Bud and Fury-Usyk look unlikely to happen at this point and it's bonkers.
As far as 2 of the biggest fights not getting made in Usyk-Fatass and Spence-crawford, boxing has been pretty good lately. Alot of good fights already happened and were merely 4 months in. Boxing is making a comeback in 2023.. MMA will bite the dust when the smoke clears.
I think this year has a lot of promise, but the fights need to stop getting cancelled or postponed. And obviously the issue at HW & 147. But there have been some good bouts so far and I like a lot of the matchups upcoming. Including tomorrow night.
I think it's been an ok start to 2023, wouldv'e liked a few more shows but Smith Eubank was great, personally enjoyed that. Enjoyed Yarde Beterbiev as well, Wood v that loon Lara was a treat too. Plant Benavidez / Okolie Light this weekend are 2 great main events.....cruiserweight division is what it as at the minute but you can't knock an undefeated champ in with an undefeaten challenger on free to air. Tank Garcia fingers crosses Tank don't do nothing stupid is another cracker. Canelo Ryder we ought to be fun while it lasts. Haney Loma gonna be fire as will Taylor Teofimo. & it's looking likely Benn will either be in with Eubank or Brook in June.
Ha, I knew as I was typing, between mouthfuls of pasta, that I was getting his name wrong but I was drawing a blank and couldn't be bothered checking.
Boxing reminds me of a Russian phrase I heard once probably on reddit by a non-russian Today is worse than yesterday but at least its not going to be as bad as tomorrow Definitely frustrated about what's going on at heavy and welter and my main gripecmy entire life almost is that the sanctioning bodies are still relevant and we don't have some system to have 1 world champion who has challengers that are selected based on merit. But, try to stay positive there's always good things and good fights happening as well.
It's been an absolutely superb first 3 months of the year with great fights and prospects across the weight divisions. Been genuinely outstanding, a superb weekend of boxing this weekend, another one next weekend.
I have watched less and less since 2018. Only some big fights but I would never stay awake to follow the sport anymore. Sometimes I only watched the highlights. I don't even have a favourite fighter anymore and don't know any prospects. I switched to ONE Championship.
To many Belts and Divisions that is the main problem 1 division 1 belt then watch the Top Fighters fight each other....Will never happen of course but it's the only thing that will fix the problem we have at the moment.!!!!
