Clinching is a part of boxing. Not an arm lock. What Plant was doing tonight was not a quick clinch, which is legal. The holding and locking another fighters arm to the point you are being dragged as he is trying to free himself is not clinching.

I wouldn't say it's a defensive tactic, survival tactic is more like it.

This is going to sound ruder than I want or intend, but, so what? It's still a defensive technique, which was my point.

Calling a gassing fighter that's getting their head caved in a **** for clinching a fighter they don't have the power to keep off them is ridiculous.

I think survival tactics fall under / are a subset or, defensive tactics. But I get your point and can see why you'd see it that way.

And again, that's NOT why I was calling him a *****.

Well, it's illegal either way. And Bayless never once warned Plant for doing it.

This isn't the UFC and hugfests will ruin the sport even further. If Plant couldn't defend himself properly, either the corner should have stopped the fight or he should have gone out on his shield.

I only see blocking, parrying or rolling with shots, control of range, head movement and shoulder rolls as defensive tactics. Clinching is merely buying time when you're hurt and an attempt to run out the clock without taking any more damage or trying to drain your opponent of energy.

I can respect that view. But that's besides the point, imo.

"We have purposely trained him wrong, as a joke."

One of those movies that'll never get old.

I didn't see you edit your post. But since you asked: Inoue, Choco, Beterbiev.

This. It’s not defense. It’s breaking the rules. I tried to explain that to someone here a few weeks ago but they didn’t want to believe me.
