It's possible. Sonny was mobbed up; if the odds were way high in his favor....let's say 8-1...he would be told to flop. Not many places where you can make 800% ROR in one night.
I think this is that bah lance guy who was permabanned a while back for making sexually inappropriate comments. His affection towards Ingo, and unwarranted aggression gives him away.
And according to this commentator his right hand punching power was well known. He even talks about it as the toonder bolt. That was before he knocked out Machen. Of course, this commentator knew about the right hand but somehow camp Machen completely missed it in their preparations for the fight . Sounds likely to you perhaps but anyone a bit less biased by his strong dislike for a fighter undrstands that this is a complete BS excuse. This content is protected
Liston should be the favourite but if Johansson lands the first bomb he probably takes it and those chances are not all that bad imo.
Interesting that nobody gave him a chance against either Machen or Patterson. Peoples opinion means nothing. So often wrong but still so sure. This is boxing and Johansson found a way to beat every opponent he faced despite being "a one trick pony". Liston lost to lesser opponents than Johansson so the arrogance here is quite incredible. Probably because one guy is European and the other American. This content is protected
As much as I like Johansson I can’t see him doing much against Liston. I think he’d be a sitting target for that jab and cross. This most likely ends inside two rounds
I would make Liston a very heavy favourite to beat Johansson.Sonny defeated two fighters whose punching power was the equal of,or least very close to that of Johansson, namely Mike deJohn and Cleveland Williams. It's fair to say that Johansson didn't fight anyone whose punching power was close to that of Sonny Liston. Admittedly Liston did lose to two fighters less talented than Johansson,Marty Marshall and Leotis Martin. However Marshall defeated Liston in Sonny's eighth professional bout ( obviously Liston was still at the novice stage of his career ) and Martin defeated Liston when Sonny was a very old man. It the context of this debate those two defeats should be ignored.
Liston would put a whooping on Ingo. Liston had a fine chin at his best and he's not getting one punched even by Ingo. He had no trouble being patient if the matchup or stage dictated it and he'd control the early going and the first time he hurt Ingo he'd ramp up and take him out in about 3 or 4 rounds for mine.
I gotta watch more INGO, but GREAT movement? A very young Ali boxed his head off. And I believe could have taken him by 1962. Surely you do not think that however excellent the Bingo was, that for accuracy, power, length, versatility... It is literally the greatest right in HW history?!?
Calm down, no need to have a mental breakdown. I forgot you had those frequently and it's why you were permabanned under your previous rendition. Can't say we didn't miss you. Place has been sorely lacking in entertainment. I don't have a strong dislike for Ingo. I don't care much about him to have any opinion on him one way or the other. Perhaps the commentator did some research on Ingo so they could have something to talk about. Facts are Ingo had never fought on American soil up to that point, and didn't exactly beat a murderer's row of contenders. By the way you never answered my question. What were the ratings of Cooper and Eskriene when they faced Machen? As for the "bs excuse" comment. Let me get this straight, you cut Liston no slack for his losses to Marshall and Martin, nor Cleveland Williams for losses to Satterfield and Jones when he was a 19/20 year old kid, as well as his post shooting losses when he was obviously a shell of himself but you come out with a myriad of excuses for Ingemar's performance against London at the ripe old age of 30. The double standards are laughable, much like yourself. Like I said, you never fail to entertain.
I assume you mean Ingo? I highly doubt Ali could've taken Liston in '62. Still to green for my liking and was dropped by Sonny Banks that year (who was himself killed by Leotis Martin a couple years later).
Yes DUH I will edit that! Thomas Hauser discusses there sparring session in his Biography of Ali, & I really can see how Ali would have been perfect to take out a limited slugger (although elite overall) Ingo-& when very young. Don't know how I listed...Liston by mistake!
