Adam Smith. Im not talking from a commentary viewpoint, but from a Head of Boxing one. He put pressure and expectations on Shalom to deliver. Since he has been away the quality is getting worse and upcoming bills don't seem much better. Discuss.
Shalom is the problem (who is he?). Everything about Shalom annoys me not too mention the company name "boxxer". I actually miss the Matchroom cards on SKY..
Not enough good boxers around at the moment to be putting good shows on in my opinion it would be like this no matter what. Doesn’t have to be but they don’t like putting evenly matched fights on just names against bums. I haven’t watched many lately but it’s what I was seeing up until recently.
Shalom has some decent boxers in his stable, but no really ppv stars 10-15 years british boxing was booming, and there were big fights, domestic and foreign to be made at most weights, between welter and heavy, now though that's not the case Hard to blame shalom,or smith in his absence for this Ppv nowadays seems to be fury/ vs ? Or decent british fights, such as eubank v smith Sign of the times in my opinion
There’s not only Adam Smith who can carry out quality control. A high percentage of people will tell you, Okolie, Hughie Fury, several female boxers etc will not generally deliver exciting TV fights…
I would gladly watch cards like that on BT Sports last night with not a 'PPV Star' or World Title in sight. Good quality match making with decent 50/50 fights is needed or boxing in the UK will go down the pan for all promoters. People have woke up to Box Office fraud after viewing a few Muhammed Ali level Heavyweights turn out to be no better than Prime Matt Skelton types.
I strongly agree with this. It doesn't have to be boxers from the top shelf, it can easily be the second or third best. It's all about match making. In the summer of 2021, Dennis Hobson had a series of good, even fights outdoors in Sheffield. Maybe not the biggest names but the fights were worth watching. The same can be said about ProBox TV and their Wednesday Night Fights.
Sky sports now make a big song and dance of things when they have an evenly matched fight on the bill. Woolhouse last night before the Giles v Gomez jr was delighted to be telling us that it was a 50/50 affair without any sense of irony. It’s almost as if putting an evenly matched fight on is such a novelty it should be rejoiced as something so unusual the viewers need to be reminded of such! The sad fact is that on sky sports that’s the case!
Yeah Smy only interested in building future stars (for PPV sales.) Unfortunately not that interested in good 50/50 trade fights we all love.
I get the impression Shalom would be more suited running Misfit shows Not keen on the direction and production of Boxxer shows
Why channel 5? He does at least 1 fight a month on Fightzone, it's free and you see all the undercards too. They also stream it on BBC iPlayer. Not many, 50/50s though...mostly ticket seller knock-over jobs...
