But I thought they were going to rematch right after the first fight.

Instead, Zhang disappeared from the rankings (which made zero sense to me) after he "lost" to Hrgovic and and now he's fighting Joyce.

If Zhang loses and takes a beating against Joe, I don't know if there will be much call for a second fight with Hrgovic.

At the end of the day Zhang made Hrgovic look very poor in that fight,most fighters would have wanted to put it right especially after all the criticism towards Hrgovics performance but it seems he doesn’t want to re run that again .

You are the problem, your mindset. It is just like Fury ducking Usyk - as a champ you should not be in a position to refuse a fight from other champs or mandatories because of money, Fury should be stripped, and all who refuse to fight should be stripped.

If Zhang had won instead Hrgovic, do you think that that Chinese juggernout who is set to fight Joe Joyce would even look back at "close decision win". No, and the fact is Hrgovic father passed away 3 weeks before a fight. Rematches are only for close belt fights, not regular ones. If Zhang passes Joyce (who controversially passed a win over Hrgovic in WBA champinship or something (look at it on youtube), which no one mentions, he can fight Hrgovic again. That way both IBF and WBA will have the same mandatory.

And I think I don't have to explain, how pro-boxing has worked in the past decades. Yes, you have less chances if you come from a little country, which does not support or push you at all, also if you are unpopular and unkown for casuals, who bring the majority of revenues (e.g.~70k followers on social media), also if you are high risk with low reward. You have to be very lucky. Successful pro-boxers do not risk their carreer and fight people like Hrgovic, Sanchez, Kossobutskiy, Dychko etc. at this stage. We will see in a few years, if Hrgovic will agree to risky fights, once he's on the top with a belt.

 

They actually fought, it was a close decision for Joyce. No s in steamrolling, and that was in his prime.

 

And that is why todays boxing champions arent the best boxers even in their own era. Being a champ means nothing because of that system.Before it meant you were the top G, the strongest, the best.
