You guys complain about price of PPV's yet you still keep paying for them. They're not worth the $$$$$$. Only way to reign this in is to boycott them. I haven't paid to watch a fight in years. If there is a fight I'm interested in I can watch it at leisure a couple of days after
https://www.axs.com/uk/events/473623/davis-vs-garcia-tickets It's $1,000 to get into the door at T-Mobile, so $85 for a PPV doesn't seem unreasonable.
Big boxing events have always been expensive. I bet the tickets for Dempsey-Willard were in the $79 range in value of the day. I just checked antique ticket sellers and bleacher seats were $15, up close was $60! And no tv, PPV or otherwise. Yes its apples to oranges as arena seats for Garcia Davis are expensive but that's all the choice you had in 1919. The average cost of a closed circuit ticket at a theater for SRL-Duran I in 1980 was $20. Wasn't cheap. Davis-Garcia both have big social media fans, especially Garcia. I don't agree that casuals will not buy the event; in fact they will be the majority or purchasers IMO.
True, but at least those are all stacked Cards. Lucky for me my casual cousins will be hosting this fight party!
America such a **** country. We also pay most for Healthcare, pharmaceuticals, education, and we have the most school shootings in the world. Another three 9 year olds died today. I need to move lol
For me it's not about the expense. There are fights I would happily pay $85 to watch. Fury-Usyk, Wilder-Usyk and Crawford-Spence are three such fights. Truth be told, I think Davis-Garcia may be more entertaining than any of those three bouts. However, they don't bring the resume and ring cache to make this bout worth the money. Back in the 1980s and 1990s Don King used to stack his PPVs with great matchups that made spending the money seem like a great deal. He figured more great fights meant more PPV buys. Bob Arum felt that fans really only paid for the main event so why waste the other fights as undercard bouts. They were both right. I remember that studies back then showed the high majority of buys did have to do with the main event. However, those same studies showed that high quality undercards could help the success of a PPV move up a notch, from fair to mediocre, mediocre to good, good to very good and so on. As it stands now, the whole success of a PPV falls on the star of the event with no help from the promoter or undercard. That's ridiculous.
I have no clue why you guys are shocked. Davis vs Rolly was $74.99. Ryan is a much bigger star than Rolly, and this is a bigger fight. What price were you expecting?
If you find it high you can always watch at a bar or cinema. That's what I always do. Plus the atmosphere is awesome. I don't live by any boxing fans so if I watch at home I'm alone
