When watching boxing on you tube, do you prefer to ...?

Which one do you prefer?

 

I like to go back to fights I've never seen but already know the outcomes, mainly from the 70s and 80s. I was a child in the 80s so I know the history of a lot of fights, but always love watching how that history came to be.

Quite frankly, IMO the craft of the average boxer from the 70s-80s is far more aesthetically appealing than anything currently (with minor outlying exceptions)

 

My memory is terrible when it comes to remembering outcomes of fights from the past....especially with trilogies.

Pacman Varquez, was it 4 fights they had in the end? Remember all of them being great and think all but 1 went the distance?....couldn't tell you who won which when or if any were draws.

Gatti Ward trilogy, all classics....couldn't tell you who won which when or if any were draws.

90% of YouTube fights I watch are from the 50s-90s, but I always know the outcome whether I've seen the fight or not. I'm really not as big a fan of the current crop. As a previous poster alluded, I feel the overall skill level in the sport has declined.

 

Heavyweight classics, whether I know the outcome or not beforehand, 80s - present day. Super middleweight is my other favourite division

 

me too the golden era was from Joe Louis to Bernard Hopkins as a whole I feel...maybe if you want to go a bit further behind then from Jack Johnson and Jimmy Wilde to Bernard's last fight against Joe Smith. But today's boxing aint the same.

 

I like both, but the youtube videos could do without the spoilers in the titles. I really enjoy watching fights I saw as a kid. I've learned a lot since then and "see" so much more now.

I can't watch a fight if I know the outcome, it has always been that way. Any fight, from yesterday to when my Grandpappy was a baby.

 

Wow lucky you, you never have to watch a bad fight again! Just watch the greatest of fights, wait a while till you forget who won, watch again, wash rinse repeat.

Yeah I feel they quality of fighters was higher back then. I was watching Matthew saad Muhammad vs Yaqui Lopez the other day.
Was shocked to find out that Yaqui Lopez was never a champ. The guy seemed like a great fighter.

 

He was one of my favorite non-champions. He, Pedro Montanez, Wilfredo Rivera, Bennie Briscoe, Johnny De La Rosa, Ruben Castillo, Tamy Mauriello, Nino Valdez, Juan Antonio Lopez, Ricardo Moreno, Lee Oma, Billy Petrolle, Young Stribling, the tragic Duk Koo Kim, Andy Ganigan, Juan Carazo-who was my gym mate when I was 12 at the Bairoa Gym in Caguas, Puerto Rico-k Mario Martinez, Jose Basora and a few others.

Heck even the non-champions were of high quality in the golden era!

I found his address a few years ago through startiger.com and sent him an autograph request. Sadly he still hasnt answered. But he is still one of my non-champion favorites.

 

Thats really cool. Since being born in 87 I started watching boxing in the 00's but with fights not being made I do enjoy studying past era's/boxers and watching their fights.
Especially with big fights not being made nowadays.

I also found out about this other non champ that fought out of prison!, James Scott, he fought and won vs Yaqui lopez and lost against Qawi. You could make a movie about guys like that.
Really seems like a much stronger era.

Marvin Hagler is my favourite fighter and I always feel the guys he fought leading up to his title shot were very good as well. Guy had like 50 fights before he got a title shot. Insane time.

 

Either. With fights I watched a long time ago, it’s interesting to see if my perspective is different. Sometimes watching live matches skews my objectivity towards a favorite. It’s a great resource to have. So thankful for it.
