This version of Wilder has been in three times with prime ATG Fury. Have those beatings taken enough out of Wilder for Joshua to stand a chance in this matchup?
Wilder is far less shopworn. The fact he can get stopped twice but still go out and let his hands go is testament to his mental strength. He probably always would have KOd AJ. He definitely does now
Wilder to be a tad gunshy, Joshua to just be shy in general, Spencer Fearon happy because it's two black guys so he can't lose, UK female presenters and pundits joining Gareth A Davies in gushing over Joshua in the build up, Wilder acting like he's a character from Family Guy, those stupid little legs coming out again. I don't think I want to see this.
I would probably back Wilder now. I had been really unsure about the outcome of this fight for years, and could see any eventuality (aside from a Wilder points win!) happening. After last night though, I think Joshua would become frustrated if he wasn't able to get to Wilder early.. and in doing so would leave himself open. As we know, Wilder only needs half a second to end a fight. Joshua is no doubt the better boxer, but I think Wilder's X-Factor and Joshua's mentality decline would lead to a fairly emphatic Wilder win. Would absolutely love to see it though, I think it's potentially the most exciting fight to be made in the division.
It' was the sort of fight where you would get a different outcome each time imo, maybe it still is but I just don't see Wilder not landing something big and early anymore. He has more heart in the ring imo. Joshua has massive heart outside of the ring but he now seems to clam up Pricey style in there. You could tell after round 1 yesterday that AJ is cannon fodder for the top guys, he just doesn't have his favourite buzz words, mind set and mentality anymore. Can you imagine what Joshua would be like with the fear of that big right hand coming at him? He would have another panic attack.
Prior to AJ vs Franklin, I thought Wilder stylistically would be easiest fight that AJ has had since Molina. AJ can't be cautious and gunshy as he was against Franklin. AJ needs to put pressure on Wilder, back him up from and put combinations together then Wilder will fold instantly. AJ can't be cagey and fight on back foot, being nervous and hesitant to put combinations together. That said, some the jabs he landed on Franklin, no doubt in my minds puts Wilder on his ass. Also Wilder doesn't get up from that big body AJ landed near the end of the fight.
Agreed - aside from a Wilder points win, I could see any scenario. I think it's a really exciting fight but can't see it getting made as it's so risky for the brand. The optics would be just terrible for Matchroom, DAZN and Hearn if Joshua ended up splattered in the Wembley centre circle whilst Wilder does this. Even the casuals would know he was finished.
Yeah several of hard jabs that AJ landed would of put Wilder on his ass. I certainly think the uppercut AJ landed near the and the heavy body shot AJ landed, would of finished Wilder.
Let's not be silly, Joshua at his spiteful best is clearly an excellent combination puncher - but in reality Wilder isnt' going to be knocked out by his jab. I have no idea whether this is genuinely your opinion or you exaggerate for effect, but either way I don't think it's very realistic.
