HAS ALEXANDER POVETKIN BEEN UNDERESTIMATED THROUGHOUT HIS CAREER?

He was a beast in his prime (2012 2015 approx), with good power, good chin, great combinations of shots and speed, decent stamina.

He had great wins in a row and only lost to Wlad when he was in his prime (he took out the losses from Joshua and White).

I feel like a lot of fans never put him on any rosters or at least don't give him as many wins on the classic forum against legends.

    ¿What do you think?

    Yes.
He loses a wrestling match against Klitschko. The referee was either incompetent or corrupt.
Then Wilder the duck in 2016 and when he got his chance against AJ in 2018 he was already 39 and only at 85% of his capacity. And yet despite that he had dominated AJ on the first 5 rounds.
He managed to break Whyte into his prime at 41.
Note that Hearn had wanted to put him against Usyk in 2019 but the Ukrainian had refused for political reasons.

I think he remained underdog until the end of his career. His penultimate fight (Dilian White KO) shows who Sasha was until the end. And Povetkin's resume is quite comparable, and even better than Wilder's.

Povetkin beat Whyte, Chagaev, Chambers, Takam, Huck...

It's much better than Ortiz twice, Helenius and Stiverne.

He had an excellent career. 3rd best heavy of the K brother years. Shame he didn’t get to hold a belt as his resume is much better than many belt holders since like Wilder, Stiverne and Charles Martin.

Very good HW. The Jerry Quarry of his day and that's a compliment in my book.

2x proven peds abuser, lost his biggest fights. Good not great fighter.

To see what he was when young and pre-juice, watch the fight against Chambers to see Povetkin's true level.

Maybe that's why he tested positive. But Ortiz had tested positive in November 2017 and that didn't bother Wilder to face him in March 2018...

He most definitely did not. Fat Eddie went all 12 and Povetkin did not look dangerous. (He did win the decision easily, tho, and fairly so.)

The point is that Povetkin became a more explosive puncher in his mid-30s which is not how it works. *Unless*, the 2x convicted peds cheat was relying on the peds we know he was using to improve his performance.

Povetkin is just another Big Baby Miller, but people want to excuse him for some reason.

I don’t even consider the fight against Wlad a loss. He was cheated out of being able to actually have a boxing match in that fight. Wlad should have had more than a handful of points deducted, or been disqualified.

Povetkin tested positive much closer to the fight date than Ortiz did. Mind you, Wilder had accused Povetkin of being juiced up much earlie, which is what a lot of us were saying at the time. It was obvious. But as with Ortiz, Wilder was willing to fight him anyway.

"Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s title defense against Alexander Povetkin has been postponed by the WBC after the Russian challenger failed a drug test.

The WBC says the 21 May fight in Moscow is off, pending an investigation, with no back-up date.

“Keeping the priority of safety and also the principle of justice, the WBC will continue the investigation into the case,” the WBC said in a statement. “Consequently, the event scheduled for 21 May in Moscow is hereby officially postponed.”"

We just went over all of this on another thread, and I posted all of the links to prove that he was exonerated of the first "bust" and financially compensated in court.

The "second bust" is a problem and he is responsible, but it was a minor substance that is sometimes illegally put in supplements by the makers. Povetkin is still absolutely responsible for what goes in his body, and is still does tarnish him a bit, but it is not the same as having HGH sent to his house or testing with testorsterone levels 4X normal, like a was the case with a couple of the more well beloved guys on this forum.

Yes there was one legit PEDs bust, yes if pulls him down a bit, no it does not completely negate what he was to the sport.
