    If slipping down to 154 from 160 didn't effect him, he beats Floyd. Of course, Floyd would have insisted on a 150-152 catchweight.

    This would turn into a field day for Floyd. Martinez had a ton of technical flaws and got by on speed and athleticism, which would be non existent against Mayweather. Floyd would totally exploit him.

    Floyd wins this. I'm pretty sure if Floyd never fought Canelo half this forum would try to tell you he would have been destroyed.

    There's a BIG reason Floyd "retired" when the WW division was red hot. The likes of P Williams, Cotto, Pac, and Margarito ran his low T level butt to fake retirement. Floyd needed to wait until these guys beat each other up more to return.

    Floyd would have never entertained the notion of facing Martinez

    Sergio never fought anyone remotely like Floyd. Sergio was clearly hittable. I like Floyd in an ugly decision w lots of holding and surprisingly little action...or maybe it wouldn't be surprising

    Floyd retired after DLH cause he had to or was contractually mandated to rematch Oscar. Not sure how the Hatton fight happened whether it was a lone voluntary defense or DLH blessing. Either way Floyd retired May, 2007 abd unretired May, 2009. Dont think it was a coincidence, personally.

    With all due respect, I think your timeline is a little skewed here. Williams already had a fight set when Floyd retired, and Williams lost that fight against the unheralded Carlos Quintana. Pacquiao had never fought north of 130 at that point. Margarito had likewise just previously lost a fight against Williams, who would later move up immediately after he avenged his loss to Quintana. Cotto was the one guy that would have made the most sense for Floyd to fight at that time, but Mayweather did ultimately face and beat him a few years later, and while he never faced Margarito, he did outclass Shane who had just bludgeoned Margarito in his previous fight.

    Would I have liked to have seen Floyd-Cotto in 2008? Absolutely! Would I have preferred seeing Floyd-Pac in March 2010? You betcha!

    But at the end of the day, hard to blame Mayweather for "retiring" when he did, especially since Floyd's retirement propelled him into becoming the highest earner during the long rich history of professional boxing, and Floyd did effectively beat everyone worth beating at 147 when he returned (plus a couple of wins north of that, including when he won against Cotto).

    Sergio wouldn't have made 154 in 2011? He had already been a MW for what 2-3 years? (someone check my math). They were already 2 divisions apart. I can understand a hypothetical when one flirted in the same division, or even when it's one division. Two divisions apart gets kinda goofy (like the whole Floyd/Winky thing).
