Rumored for July twenty-second, O2. WBA Super, IBF, WBO, and IBO titles (second defense of each by Usyk) on the line. Dubois is functionally the mandatory challenger to Usyk for the WBA Super, being himself the WBA "regular" world heavyweight champion.

Each man has twenty professional bouts under their respective belts. Dubois has advantages of two inches more height and eleven fewer years on his odometer, and the higher KO percentage - but a far paltrier and less decorous amateur pedigree.

They have one common opponent, if you count the semi-pros:

Joseph Obey Joyce stopped Dubois in his only defeat to date in 2020. He was shut out 5-0 by Usyk in the WSB seven years earlier.

I get its a mandatory. But god I dont want this right now. Theres better out there for Usyk if he wants legacy. Even if he beats Dubois, the IBF will probably strip him anyway.
Usyk should be aiming at Wilder/Fury/Joyce and nothing else at this stage in his career. **** the orgs.

Usyk beats Dubois to a wide obvious UD... Boring.

I don't think Wilder is any bigger a threat h2h than Dubois (have always found Wilder incredibly overrated and think he gets schooled by Usyk even worse and with even greater ease than DDD) but recognize that he's a much better payday option for Usyk.

The boxing world of course wants & needs the Fury unification, but in lieu of that as consolation prizes go this is about the best fight you could make aside from maybe Joyce. I can't even think what else for Usyk would serve as both credible & lucrative to any meaningful degree at this point. Ruiz? Joshua trilogy? Gassiev rematch? Meh...

Personally Dubois is tailor made for Uysk and I dont think Dubois will carry his power til the later rounds. Wilder, although would be made to look stupid for the majority of the fight, I think has a chance of KO'ing anyone at any point, which makes it a much more intriuging fight for me.

An AJ trilogy depends on where AJ goes from here, although it will end the same at the two fights before IMO and I'm sure many others would agree with me. Big money fight, not brilliant for legacy.

Gassiev, meh, lets see in future but I dont think we'd find anything different from before.

Now the Ruiz match up you mention, I dont mind at all. Former champ with big KO win over another former champ, thats a fight I'd want to see with interest. Usyk wins it, but it defo puts bums in seats and gets PPV buys.

Not Dubois though, I dont see the same threat you do in Dubois, it would be a cake walk for Uysk. He may even stop him.

You're right though, Usyks options for legacy and financially abundant rewards are limited at the moment. Maybe he just wants to get Dubois out of the way and get back at the negotiating table with Fury.

To be clear: I actually don't consider Dubois a threat. I just see Wilder being even more tailor-made and don't really even believe in his puncher's chance against Usyk.

Usyk vs. Ruiz would be a nice chess match, but Andy is by far the lowest financial draw among top heavyweights. I guess maybe if they held it at Staples (or Crypto Arena, whatever it's called now) in L.A. it could do alright.

Wilder is a much, much better fight than Dubois. Wilder has a 5" reach advantage over Usyk, whereas Usyk and Dubois have the same reach.

It also would have a big fight feel - how do you market Usyk vs Dubois other than "well, we gotta find somebody & he's a mando".

Usyk is too old to go around defending against mandatories. He should just drop two of the belts and pick which one he wants to defend.

Read again. I never denied and in fact, acknowledged that it's a bigger fight. Said he's less of a threat (and that isn't because Dubois is one himself, just that Wilder's shot at being Usyk is practically zero; stylistically he'll be nip for the Cat)

If Usyk cannot fight Fury he needs to fight his mandatory.

Right, jumping through all the hoops and making sure to hold onto all his belts is the best way to maintain a strong bargaining position if & when Fury talks resume. :deal:

Usyk's got 75% of the most prized possession in the sport. That matters. Fury only has 25% of it. He can challenge for 100% if he so chooses. Until then, 75% belongs to Usyk.

I did read it and you are wrong. The betting odds -- including the smart money -- would reflect that Wilder would pose more of a threat. Taller, longer and much better one shot power. Neither of those guys is outboxing Usyk, but mind you even Joshua was able to hit and briefly hurt Usyk.

Mind you, I agree that Usyk likely would win either fight. But the better matchup and bigger money fight is Wilder. Going on a mandatory tour in his late 30s isn't helping anything. Dubois is an unworthy challenger.
