He wasn't though blown up Welterweights don't destroy the best fighters at 154, and then move up and dismantle a respected Middleweight champion in 5 rounds. Was he better at the lower weights ? Yeah I mean I don't think anyone would deny that. But that doesn't mean Trinidad still wasn't a dangerous fighter at Middleweight.
I'd say he was more a natural light middleweight, he drained a lot of weight to make welterweight and ran marathons on the side which probably helped him keep his weight down. He did look a little soft at middleweight but he had the height and power that he wasn't really ever out sized at the weight, even the taller Hopkins wasn't a big middleweight only gaining a few lbs and even making 156lbs against Oscar.
No ****in chance that would have happened. Tito's pretty much my all time fave, but his chin would NOT last at 160
Correct. Technically still above LMW though. Put up a thread on it then. I actually don't think that I've seen it around before. You can put the question in 2 parts, greatness and H2H. Fair enough
I might pick BHop to get a close decision, but Tito doesn't see the seventh round. Nor does Oscar, who was better than Tito.
Are you talking the Dela Hoya who Trinidad beat? Hopkins easily beats GGG & Trinidad Stops him.Trinidad is a classic boxer puncher with power in both hands who eventually figures out his opponents who gives him problems.Pernal Whitaker is considered one on the best defensive boxers of all time & ended up losing to Trinidad with a broken jaw to go with it.GGG never fought a fighter with Trinidads power so its hard to say if he has a granite chin, you have to fight other boxers with big punching power & Canelo doesn't count.Trinidad fought Jones at 170 way above his fighting weight.GGG isn't a P4P great because he doesn't have other great boxers he can say he beat.To be a great have to beat other great boxers.
GGG has never fought anyone with Trinidads power or boxing skills.GGG is one of the most over rated boxers that i have ever seen & i have watched the sport for a good 48 years & have seen alot of the fights from the 1930's-40's-50's-60's-70's-80's-90's & 2000's & above. This man has never fought a top boxer & beat him & yet people see him ko lesser boxers & think he is one of the greatest mw of all time.Trinidad beat 6 Olympic medalist.Defended his IBF WW belt 16 times only Henry Armstrong 19 defended it more.Never lost as a WW never lost as a super WW knocked out William Joppy ( A solid MW champion) to win MW belt.GGG doesn't have anywhere near the resume.
Tito was perfectly made for the MW divisions. He basically had to starve himself to make 147.He even looked thin at 160.
They were not similar in anyway.Hopkins was 6'1 a very big mw & Used his smarts in the ring to offset his opponents talents.
I agree 100% Hopkins beat bigger men & punchers at 175 & He was also great at using his opponents strengths against them .
So conversation shouldn't even be talked about it would be a mismatch.Hopkins beat big named boxers his whole career & did it at 160-175.GGG I do not see any real big named boxers this guy fought.Hopkins beat P4P greats. It is hard to say how good some one is when they have no named boxers on their resume.Any good boxers can beat lesser opponents their whole career & do it looking good it doesn't mean they will look good doing it against a proven champion.
GGG gets underrated. Most purists had him winning both Canelo fights and I dont even think that either of the first two fights were that close, I felt Canelo deceives everyone because his punches are flashy and most hit elbows hence why every opponents complains about their arms hurting like hell after fighting him. Canelo knows his flashy punches will be scored even if they miss. Saying that, GGG is a problem for any MW in history simply because of his jab, footwork and chin. He would lose some but they'd be 7-5 type affairs
