Yeah Golovkin would beat his ass Hopkins got sat down by Segundo Mercado Prime Jones beat his ass and showed him his limitations. When Hops couldnt make 160 anymore Calzaghe spanked him too. Maybe you have been living under a rock Agree. Beating Antwun Echols and Allen over and over doesn't mean that you will see the bell against Golovkin
Yeah, because Hopkins got knocked out so easily in his prime. I can see Hopkins nullifying many of G's offensive tools. I see Hops making it an ugly, in the trenches type fight. I've seen him do that, can't say the same for G. Not saying G can't do well in that type of fight, but since all I can base my opinion on is what I know, I give an edge to Hopkins.
Trinidad got schooled by hoya. Everyone but Puerto Rico agrees. (However by Oscar’s own admission He should have kept it the same Game plan for the last 4 rounds) Trinidad always struggled with pure boxers, & by struggle I mean got his ass outclassed & whipped. Triangle theories have been debunked by boxing history.
Nonsense. Canelo is considerably more skilled than Tito, and has more power. Others with more power include Jacobs and Lemieux Tito had success as a welter wt, and again at 154. But his power didn't carry up to 160, especially when Bernard exposed his hand wrapping techniques prior to their fight. GGG would walk through the smaller mans punches and brutalize him. Tito had three decent opponents at MW and went 1-2 with them. He won ONE, William Joppy. He lost the other two...Bernard was well ahead when he KO'd Tito, and Winky won every round. His resume at 160 is extremely weak, pretty much non-existent. He beat an ageing well-past-prime Pea who's best days were at Light weight. He lost ( the judges notwithstanding) to Oscar at 147. And Roy toyed with him in a non-serious money-spinner for both men. Tito tasted the canvas ten times...chin is nowhere near that of GGG who was never down. GGG is more skilled, has more power and a much better chin. Only one way this thing would have ended.
Yeah, G dug deep, but Hops would have taken that version of G apart. A prime G would do somewhat better, but close quarter G is not at his best. Hopkins thrived in that type of fight. Of course, if G makes the fight were he fights at his pace and range. Hops has issues. Bottom line, it comes do to who gets to fight their fight.
Don't people realize how silly they sound when they bring up the last loss of an ancient ATG boxer's career to question his chin (in which Hopkins was knocked out of the ring but not actually KO'd cause immediately after he hit the floor he was running his mouth complaining lol). Or they bring up some random knockdown, really stupid stuff. It's ridiculous when they try to diminish Bernard's KO of De La Hoya by pointing to the Sturm fight as proof that Oscar sucked as a MW. They won't acknowledge that Oscar looked like a completely different fighter in the Hopkins bout and was fighting a great fight till the KO. Heck, the version of Oscar that fought Hopkins would give GGG all kinds of problems and it wouldn't surprise me if he beat GGG. Trinidad would probably whip GGG too - Golovkin is just not all that great a fighter compared to these guys.
That's your opinion and that's fine. I'm of the opposite view, that while Golovkin prefers a mid range fight, he does just fine in the trenches. Even when he was sick and / or jetlagged for the Ouma fight and Kassim very gallantly took him on in a dogfight, Golovkin showed his class and ripped him apart. GGG looked very flat for that one and ate a ton of punches that he'd usually have slipped or muffled. No problems, never came close to losing This content is protected
Golovkin would give them both their rightful beatings and they could go back to Oscar's house and play at 'hide the spoon.' At least Hopkins is a legit middleweight with a ton of defences at the weight.
I get your point, but the guys you are comparing to Hopkins are levels below. Hopkins ring IQ, size, ability to adapt and craftiness, he countered pretty good too, would be a tough road to plow. All I'm saying is, I don't see G taking it from a prime Hopkins.
Well they are both champions, so, world class level at least. I could make the same argument about Hopkins. I don't see who he faced at 160 besides that freak RJJ, that could compare to Golovkin.
Reality is neither of them faced a fighter as good as the other at 160lbs. But the closest thing to Hopkins that GGG faced is Canelo who, regardless how you scored their fights Golovkin struggled with Canelo. I find it hard to believe Golovkin would do better against Hopkins than Canelo as Canelo is shorter, with a far shorter reach, doesn't have as good as movement and throws less than Hopkins. Only thing Canelo does better than Hopkins is probably his power. Hopkins could throw over a thousand punches over 12 rounds as he did vs Johnson, has shown he can handle an elite level jab against Wright, shown he can take punches off of genuine punchers and get up if dropped, add his ring IQ into the equation and I find it hard to pick Golovkin over him.
Damn good champs. You'll never hear me say a bad thing about G's skill. Top notch operator all around. Great fantasy fight.
I would guess that Canelo had more power than Hopkin's and that might be a factor in GGG having an easier time walking through BHops punches. But Bernard was very experienced in ' borderline tactics' and could make things rough at the edges of the sport. I would pick GGG to beat the version of BHop that RJJ beat, and any earlier version. However, prime for prime, which for Bernard was from the Glen Johnson fight onwards, I think BHop takes it on points. Anybody posting that GGG gets stopped (or for that matter, BHOP getting stopped) needs to log off and find a different sport. This one is going the distance and would be a closely contested event.
