Matchroom have a show on June 10 in the UK. Could be headlined by Dillian Whyte or Fabio Wardley. This content is protected Decent test for Cheavon Clarke early on in his career. I like how he is being moved - I thought he was the weakest of the GB squad originally but it looks like I am being proven wrong. Josh Warrington could headline in Leeds on that date or a later date too.
Frank’s stable is the worst it’s ever been, he’s lucky he can borrow Fury off Top Rank to keep his head above water really…
Agree his stable is probably the worst of the 3, but this year he's had Yarde vs Beterbiev, Joyce vs Zhang next week. Although not top names, he had a couple of well matched wars on that Telford card a couple of weeks back which made cracking viewing
It's definitely not the worst it's ever been But he has a serious lack of headliners to fill out shows
Josh Taylor vs Teofimo Lopez for his WBO World Super-Lightweight Title on June 10 on Sky Sports in the US. Disappointing it's not in Scotland as was the original plan at Easter Road but great matchup.
the USA is taking a leaf out of the UK’s book and putting 3 underwhelming cards by rival promoters on the same night
Are you talking about the cards yesterday ? Matchroom's show on DAZN was easily the best to be honest as a whole card. Mattice with a last round KO when behind on the cards and Tapales upset Akhmadaliev to become unified champion at 122. Most people were watching the DAZN card but switched over to ESPN to watch Stevenson instead of Rodriguez as main event. Rodriguez broke his jaw so I wonder if the Edwards fight will be delayed until Autumn, and maybe Edwards has a runout in June defending his title.
Tickets for Taylor Cameron already virtually sold out despite the extortionate prices. Lopez Conlan has sold a decent number too. A lot of tickets left for Lara Wood II and I think the top section was all closed off. The Boxxer June 10 show headlined by Adam Azim at York Hall has already been sold out. For Smith Maxwell on July 1 it looks like all the top section of the arena has been closed off too.
What was the point of going to Manchester arena and closing most of it off? Wouldn't Birmingham have been better
Manchester Arena is way too big for most events held there, like with Okolie Light. I know Nottingham Arena was unavailable for that date. Maybe because Matchroom have a fighters on the undercard from near Manchester like Catterall and Fiaz to shift tickets, whereas they don’t have many Midlands fighters? Not too sure.
Good point. Conway is also from Northampton on the card and Danny Ball not too far from Birmingham. Maybe it was booked too for that date ? They probably would have sold out Birmingham.
September 23: Richardson Hitchins vs Jose Zepeda September 30: Jai Opetaia vs Jordan Thompson October 7: Leigh Wood vs Josh Warrington October 21: Jack Catterall vs Jorge Linares October 28: O’Shaquie Foster vs Rocky Hernandez November 4: Joe Cordina vs Edward Vazquez November 11: Pat McCormack in Newcastle November 18: Diego Pacheco vs Marcelo Esteban Coceres November 25: Chantelle Cameron vs Katie Taylor II December 2: UK show featuring Billy Joe Saunders December 9: Regis Prograis vs Devin Haney December 16: Jesse Rodriguez vs Sunny Edwards Matchroom’s schedule is unrivalled. That’s not even including some of the exciting undercard fights like Aqib Fiaz vs Reece Bellotti, Kieron Conway vs Linus Udofia and Austin Williams vs Steve Rolls. Imagine if they add Anthony Joshua or Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn to the schedule. Then if you’re a DAZN subscriber and add events like Canelo vs Charlo in the UK, Gilberto Ramirez vs Joe Smith Jr, and Ryan Garcia vs Pedro Campa, it’s the best schedule in boxing of any platform. Boxxer and Queensberry shouldn’t even be compared to Matchroom to be honest.
I was just stating Matchroom’s schedule for the rest of the year as they are the only promoter to have confirmed the majority of their shows between now and the end of the year. They will also likely start 2024 with a bang with a co-promotion with Golden Boy with Jamie Munguia vs John Ryder.
