Is boxing out of the 2028 Olympics?

That's pathetic, but the Olympics are so rotten in politics and corruption for decades that it's better if they lose the symbolism they've. Might as well drop the wrestling. Considering that curling is an Olympic sport, true, a winter-one, but still...

 

Yeah I think it may be out for next summer too? I feel for the young fighters who won't get to have that experience. It's really unfortunate that rampant corruption brought it to this point. But it's also really unfortunate that basically every Olympic boxing medal awarded for the past (at least) 4 or 5 olympics is suspect bc of fixing and other bs. So I can see the argument for needing a total reset or just to trash it.

They do seem to have left the door open for it to return. But this will also likely have a negative effect down thru amateur boxing as a whole.

 

Due to the corruption I would say it is for the best until reform in the top governing body has taken place. I do feel for the young fighters however who have dreamed of representing their country and winning a medal.

 

Amateur boxing is corrupt to it s root but would still suck.

 

Damn that sucks, I thought with them just hosting the boxing themselves in Japan instead of AIBA we'd see a continuation of boxing at the Olympics but if this actually happens it would be a huge blow to the amateur game.

Funding for amateur boxing will be slashed if not scrapped completely in a lot of countries if there's no chance of an Olympic medal. This could see many amateurs turning pro as soon as they are of age. This is a huge blow for the sport which will have a knock on effect to the pro game eventually.

 

It's not included currently but that doesn't mean it won't be. The IOC is trying to put pressure on the sanctioning body to clean up its act b/c their scoring of fights has been a joke. I watched one fight at the recent world championships for women & it's still a joke. It's why the sanctioning body wasn't allowed to administer the boxing at the Tokyo Olympics. They won't be organizing the boxing at the Paris Olympics either. I think boxing will stay in the Olympics b/c the host cities after Paris (Los Angeles & Brisbane) will want it included. It just won't be automatically included unless the sanctioning body cleans up its act.

 

This is a way to punish Cuba primarily lol.

Hasn't Cuba experienced a fall from grace recently whilst Eastern Europe/Eurasia has dominated the amateur scene?

On Boxrec the majority of high ranked amateurs are from Russia, Uzbek, Kaz, Ukraine, etc.

In your opinion whose "style" is more suited for the pro ranks. Do you think Cubans would adapt and dominate the pros if they were allowed to go professional.

 

I honestly have no idea. I want to answer EE because I'm biased, but I really don't know. Amateur success correlates decently strongly to pro, while I don't think Cubans would "take over" boxing, I believe strongly we'd see a lot of Cuban HoFers if they started being allowed to go pro.

 

Good news. The olympic style boxing is inferior to pro boxing anyway. Getting all the best fighters in same (pro) events is good for the sport.
