The person who wins the bronze medal remembers.

And in many ways, that's the person to whom it matters most.

Besides, most boxing fans remember Evander Holyfield, Andre Dirrell, Antonio Tarver, Jermain Taylor, Marvin Johnson, Deontay Wilder, John Tate and Floyd Mayweather.
They all won Olympic Bronze Medals.

But does your average boxing fan who may know all those names know they won bronze medals at the Olympics, I'd say most wouldn't.

I don't think that's his 'boxing' nickname. Just what people call him for short.

    Some do. Some don't.

But then again, if you toss that group of eight that I listed earlier, in with SRL, Ali, Tyrell Biggs, Joe Frazier, Oscar Delahoya, George Foreman, Pernell Whittaker and Andre Ward, and ask the average fan to sort them all into two groups of eight each, with one group having won Gold and the other group having won Bronze...

How many fans would know which boxers won Gold and which won Bronze ?

Except when the Lewis TKO 6 Vitali threads came busting out. There was some serious fire and acid belched back and forth on that one back in the early ESB days!

I can't decide if I like Alejandro "Pork Chop" Guerrero or not. For some reason the Cornflake callout reminded me of another food nickname.
I remember I had to look up what the word "nonpariel" meant when I realized Nonpariel Jack Dempsey was different from HW champ Jack Dempsey.
Boxers throughout history have borrowed other boxers' names - wasn't there an earlier Jersey Joe Walcott?
I was going to list Kid McCoy as another name that got reused though the whole "real MCoy" thing is a bit intricate.

    You are right.
Forum was better back then. And funner, too!

I remember the original name of the website was Eastsideboxing.com
The look stayed the same but the name changed.

Do you remember some of the old posters?
