Fury is a boxing genius. He knows what he'd be up against if he were to face Usyk. Hence the duck.

Unsurprisingly, each time Joyce was hurt, Foster halted the action.

The same people claiming it was a premature stoppage are also overlooking the fact that Joyce was hurt and the ref bought him time.

If they were to rematch, Zhang takes Joyce out.

Let’s be realistic here CST. I like Joyce, but if Foster didn’t halt the action early on (while Joyce was badly hurt), Joyce was going down.

How does this loss not affect the "Juggernaut?" He got embarrassed by an old, good southpaw.

He had NO IDEA how to fight Zhang. If you couldn't see Zhang was the more skilled fighter going into the contest it's because you can't see past hype.

Well, like most here I got this one wrong. Not that I thought I'd be easy for Joe, but thought Zhang would tire allowing Joe to win one way or the other.
    There are two winners tonight.
    1) Obviously ZZ is, but his time is limited. He should get one, maybe two big $ fights depending on the outcomes. Who does he fight next?

    2) Filip Hrgović. His narrow win now looks much better. Many here were slagging the Croatian for not doing better vs. ZZ. These same posters were mainly praising Joyce to the moon. Boxing is funny that way.

Finally, this doesn't end it for Joe. But he's no kid either. His next fight, unless it's against a trial horse, might be a make or break one.

    Wilder or AJ.

    NOT DILLIAN !

His narrow win looks better, if you believe that Filip deserved the W.

Still, at a minimum, he was there till the final bell, so his stock rises.

By how much, depends on how much you agree with that decision.

    Ruiz or Ortiz.

Yeah but to be fair dude, this was an accumulation of damage. Zhang couldn't miss with that left hand and short right hook.

I think if not for the eye this fight would have been very close, Zhang seemed to have paced himself better, I reckon he would have been 6-3 up at the end of rd 9 and Joyce would sweep the last 3 rounds for a draw.

It sounds simplistic because it is. If you have watched Zhang in his previous fights you will know how bad his gas tank is. Joyce on the other hand is extremely well conditioned and would have taken over and dominated the second half of the fight. People are now saying this was a nightmare matchup for Joyce but it really wasn't.

If anything Joyce is a nightmare matchup for Zhang. Joyce appeared to be completely unprepared for facing southpaw though, i'm not sure what the heck they had been doing in training camp, he looked like a fighter who had taken this fight on one weeks notice.

Joyce had already taken his face shattering best shot, and stood up to it. Joyce couldn't even see the shots coming and he was taking him just fine, because Zhang's shots clearly lose steam as his matches progress. In fact, he was only already down to throwing 3 and 4 punches a round, his output might have been down to 1 by the 8th round. So no he probably wouldn't have gone down. I am being realistic, and this is just wishful thinking on your part.

One thing great boxing coaches know is that a good southpaw boxer, who knows his advantages over an orthodox stance fighter, will ALWAYS beat the orthodox stance fighter.

If an orthodox stance fighter is not taught from early on how a southpaw can take advantage of his orthodox stance, he's always going to struggle against southpaws.

Salas knows it. And I'm sure he probably spent a fair amount of time trying to bring Joyce up to scratch on how to fight against a southpaw. But it wasn't evident tonight.

Some orthodox stance fighters never learn or "get it" when it comes to southpaws. That's why the saying exists...all southpaws should be drowned at birth.

Called it before the fight. Joyce made a terrible mistake boiling down for this fight.
