Joseph Obey Joyce vs. Zhāng Zhìlěi & Denzel Bentley vs. Kieran Smith RBR.

I've said this before, old Frank is still stuck in the era of ITV showing the main event at 10pm and the rest being filler. In all honesty he's not wrong, the rest of the night is just helping out the broadcaster fill some air time; advertisers and sponsors will know there's only one fight that matters. The venue, crowd, atmosphere and 'event' as a whole only really came to life after the Mayer fight.

Apparently they do have a rematch clause if they want to activate it. I feel like Joyce has to take the rematch otherwise he probably won't ever win a World Title.

 

I was at the show last night. Joyce looked small in there. His punches had no bang. Credit to Zhang, he took all of Joyce's best shots and landed some heavy shots of his own. Joyce needs a warm up before any talk of a rematch. Get his confidence up. He'll be back.

 

Got battered last night. Wasn't ever close. The judges had him 1 up on one card, and one down on the others... what the f$$k? Heavyweight boxing, it happens. Not one of these guys remotely close to Fury unfortunately. He will be back, very classy in his post fight speech also.

Doesn't help when you have the likes of Omar from IFL working as warrens propaganda machine and basing every interview he can on Joyce beating Joshua. Just focus on task in hand, Zhang was overlooked by absolutely everyone involved.

 

Over the next couple of years or so I think this defeat is going to age very badly, even winning a rematch won't change opinions on him now, the myth has been broken.

 

Easy to say in hindsight, but I think he came in too light. I cant think of a logical reason why he came in at that weight

 

A commentator said it best when he said Zhang had the quality and joe had the quantity. Joe is extremely feather fisted for a top tier lad.

 

He's made a career from the quantity being enough to do necessary damage. Parker was evidence of that, as he's not shown much sign of being worn down prior to the Joyce fight.

 

can we stop calling comprehensive stoppage losses “injuries”? his eye was swollen because he was too defensively poor to stop Zhang punching it repeatedly. same thing happened with Dubois, this kind of narrative drives me mad, it’s damage control (ironically)

 

Agree also Zhang didn't even have to throw anything to set Joe up, just big left hands really.

 

I think sometimes you can say its unlucky to get certain swellings and cuts but not in this case! Joe's eye was a home for Zhangs left hand

Joyce kept on moving to his right into the left hand. Didn’t seem to be prepared to face a southpaw. He also didn’t move his head off the line often enough, so all Zhang had to do was pop it out straight. His corner was telling him to move his head off the line!
