Agreed. Arguably Dwight's biggest attribute at LHW was his physical strength. If there's a sub 5ft 6ins fighter in history as strong as Qawi, I can't think of him. BJW beat LHWs and even some small HWs and Young Corbett III beat Billy Conn, but I doubt even they could stand up to Qawi.
I think we are essentially saying the same thing, just in different ways. My picks are: <5ft 10ins Tua/Langford <5ft 8ins Langford <5ft 6ins Qawi (or if he's not short enough, YCIII) <5ft 4ins and 5ft 2ins BJW
Yesss, but the question I left outstanding in several posts yet remains: are we sure that Qawi was definitely under 5 & 1/2' tall? EDIT: you are committing to Tua being under 5'10"? Never heard it, but seems more likely than not, given slight round ups + that haircut! And Remember, you are Still Under Oath!
I'm not sure, no. I've seen him listed at anything between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 7ins, and could believe him at anything between those 2 extremes. As mentioned, if Dwight isn't under 5ft 6ins, I'd take YCIII.
Nobody picks Marciano, OR if you might you do not think he was under 5'10"? I suspect he was. We also got the likes of Fat Tony Galento & (if you like Fat version of) Toney to consider. And considering what Mr. Price muses, IF Tua is height qualified, I might need to pick him. Also he would not be in Langford's division-if he was given that his chin was virtually impregnable, & he helped set a HW punch volume record vs. Ike even though losing, I must reluctantly take him. EDIT: under my rules I amend my statement above: it is ambiguous under my initial rules whether someone in the division BELOW can fight one above. However since I did list below & above certain heights, it is most reasonable to say that guys must be within those categories, just like all weight divisions escept the HW/unlimited one. But if a man can take everyone in the height division above that should be noted!
Usually, but a Gooogle search will show 5'9" too. He looked SO much shorter than Ali when they faced off for the computer fight-although he may have shrunk a bit then-that I wonder. But while some speculate that he was under 70", I admit I have neither definitive evidence NOR do I know if it is even likely. More likely Tua is under 5'10", if only due to most guys have their height rounded up...And his hair.
