Malik is NOT a good trainer.
Wilder had himself an excellent trainer and ruined that relationship.

Wilder has got as far he he was ever going to get as a fighter

He can't got the body mechanics or brain power to improve anymore so the trainer is irrelevant.

Pretty much all of these guys are set in their ways.

Deontay Wilder isn't a teenager. He's nearly 40 years old. He is a lethal KO artist. That's it. That's who he is.

Wilder has had more fights than any other name heavyweight around today. He's had more surgeries than any other active heavyweight today. He hasn't outweighed anyone in 10 years and he still blows them away.

Wilder only has a few fights left. Sounds like they're all going to be for huge money, with the Saudis inviting him on board.

Wilder's job will be to knock out whoever is in front of him. That's his role. He's excellent at it. Nobody else in the division is a better one-punch KO artist or finisher. That's the part he's going to play in all this. The other fighters' jobs will be not to end up on their backs staring up at the lights.

Wilder is always ready to go. Always in excellent condition. Has never entered the ring out of condition. When he's in the ring, he wants to win at all costs. And he's beaten everyone but one man. He's not someone who comes in out of shape, uninspired and doesn't care what the fans think.

We are/were lucky to have him in the division. Enjoy what's left of his career.

Side note: People claiming Mark Breland was a good trainer because he was a good amateur and pro are just spouting off. Mark Breland wasn't a good trainer. He isn't anyone's trainer. And nobody has hired Breland as a trainer since he left. Sugar Ray Leonard was an even better fighter than Breland. And Leonard was terrible at trying to guide other boxers. Joe Frazier was an excellent fighter. He was bad at trying to guide other boxers' careers. Being a top fighter yourself doesn't make you a great trainer. And changing styles at the end, like Hagler fighting right handed against Leonard, is often a dumb play.

All Scott is doing is reminding Wilder of the stuff he was decent at and working on the stuff Wilder excels at. That's what he needs to work on. Just being the best at what he's best at. No need to try to change everything now ... with the end of his career fast approaching.

Just finish up doing what you do best.

What would be the advantage of having your hands halfway in the gloves?

Wilder doesnt need a trainer he needs a brain because he always takes the law into his hands during the bout. So..Have Julius Francis at his corner or Malik would be the same thing because with smarter fighters than him like Ruiz and Usyk he would lose in any case..against them a trainer would be useful only to throw the towel in time. Besides none would be able to teach him boxing fundamentals at his age.

This sounds like a dog whistle for "Wilder, Scott and AJ are all black"

He's good at increasing his chances of getting knocked out.

At this stage I suspect Wilder more or less trains himself. So it wouldn't really matter who his official trainer was.

As you grow up you become less like a Mike Tysony kinda dude to a more subdued, less murderous person= feelings start showing up. We're all guilty of it as we age. Deontay is not a murderer anymore, heck his bombzquad ways may even be out the window.

My point is: he is a very emotional person, strong, and proud. He hurts and feels for others at times because he is a big softy. This was proven when he broke out crying about Pritchard colon in his helenius post fight interview. People were making fun of him saying "the homo needed to be hugged" as his team member hugged him and rocked him back and forth. You see Deontay has a big heart and a conscious too. He empathize, emotes, feels things passionately. You don't believe me? Check the video of him hugging helenius after their fight in his hotel room. It took like ten minutes or more.

Deontay needs constant reassurance, a lot of emoting, he requires empathy, a lot of physical contact, and maybe someone to teach him, whether it be scripture, boxing, or the meaning of life whatever . He loves being a sponge but he needs his team to be academically sound. Frick what do you want from him otherwise? A team Tyson with Rory Holloway, don King, and other leechers on? Good for him in needing malik Scott. It seems like Scott can mkcrodose knowledge inside deontays head. He may have sucked at fighting but is a good fit as a trainer. I don't think deontay ever wants to catch a body, paralyze somebody, etc no more. He is a caring young man.
