Let's celebrate the oldest living, former heavyweight champ, whilst we've still got him! Can you imagine the great story of Muhammad Ali and the 70 s golden age... Without Big George?!!! No way. And the comeback! How mental is that, when you think about it! So this is the thread to talk about the man himself.
I have been watching a few of George's fights from his first era and the guy was a wreaking machine. However I think his comeback and the fact he is doing so well is even more remarkable and a fantastic story, not surprised it has been made into a film. I only wish he had retired after Moorer, that would have been the perfect Hollywood end but I suppose he wanted to cash in which is fair enough!
Definitely a top 10 all time great heavyweight,Fergy. And in terms of sheer, raw power arguably the hardest hitting heavy of all time. Underrated boxing skills - Muhammad Ali said that nobody cut the ring off as well as George. Plus that surreal comeback.
Grew up watching old man Foreman, didn't really get to see many of his earlier fights besides Ali and Lyle and Frazier until the internet and YouTube were invented. Can't think off hand of any "boring" GF fights I've seen. I actually enjoy watching old man Foreman over the younger version, but they're both fun to watch anytime . I had his original griller as well, the man was really ahead of his time with that one. Also always enjoyed him as a commentator on HBO. Not sure why people would talk S about his commentating. I found him far more insightful and interesting to listen to than the pretentious clown trio of Merchant, Lampley, and Kellerman. Hope big George is doing well these days, and hopefully he's with us for some time to come. He is one of the last guys left of his era. I honestly think being fat is good for you after you reach a certain age
Absolutely, bud. So many things about George that made him unique really. Power to destroy Joe Frazier, the Rumble, his fights with Lyle and Young. Then that comeback, which when you think about it, is an absolute legendary tale. Glad he's where he is now and can talk about his past with no bitterness.
Would have been good to retire after Moorer, but least he went out with a disputed decision, and not like Ali or Louis. Looking forward to seeing the film, mate.
Yeah I wondered what he meant as well lol! George has been married (to women) five times and has 12 biological kids!
This content is protected Sandy Saddler is the first to get to George and hug him. Archie Moore gives the new champion a kiss on the cheek. Foreman's story can be told from so many perspectives: a monster puncher terrorizing the division; the man seeking redemption in and out of the ring; fighter turned preacher; foil to Ali with whom he stood at the crossroads of destiny in Zaire. No wonder he captures the imagination of so many. A movie would have no need to sensationalize his life. It was extraordinary.
