Would Ali go Undefeated Vs Lennox Lewis Competition

Not being inactive Ali might of stayed a little sharper later in his career. Lewis probably needed something like a cut to happen to beat Vitali at that stage of his career and probably Ali would also. Nobody else on Lewis resume has a very good chance.

 

And yet Ali beat plenty of fighters the same height as him and some even taller, I don't really understand the point he was making in all honesty. Doesn't the same apply for Lewis ? Who was also taller than most of his opponents ?

 

Yeah other than the short swarmers like Rocky/Frazier etc, most HW champs are taller than their average opponents. And yes, Ali beat the guys he mentioned so his entire point was irrelevant. He didn't even struggle with Wepner, Bugner, Terrel, Mathis, Lyle, etc, he dominated them for the msot part.

If Ali lost or had difficult fights with all his bigger opponents then maybe this would be worth mentioning but that isn't the case at all. Norton was the only taller opponent he consistently had a very hard time with and that was partly due to a clash fo styles, not Norton simply using his size to his advantage. Ali still beat Norton and was getting older and older the more they fought with diminished reflexes. Holmes doesn't even count and Foreman was his signature win.

 

This is tricky, as I'm not sure how much in decline Holy was when Lewis fought him. For Ali to win, he (MA) would have to be 1964-1971 condition physically. I mean, Holy had been past his prime since the first Moorer, but hey he smacked the crap out of under 30 Mike...

Iron Mike was much more past it than Holy, so that woudn't have been very tough for prime Ali imo.

Morrison, Rahman, McCall, Ruddock, Grant, Tua, Briggs, etc. I don't see Ali having a very hard time with any of them. Tua might be the trickiest, but can anyone see him beating the 60s Ali, really?

 

I am shock Lewis himself did not go undefeated. Take the Rahman and McCall losses off and we talk about Lewis in other light. I mean Ali SHOULD go unbeaten, but a upset is always around the corner.

 

He might survive and continue after McCall's counter, but not after Rahman's punch. Ali will be out could after that Rahman punch, and frankly, pretty much any other HW would.

 

I dont agree with this guy, but in his opinion prime Lewis ist the best HW ever and would beat anyone:

He was getting outjabbed by a fat out of prime Ray Mercer and arguably won that fight.

 

"Out of prime" whatever -- Mercer looked great in that fight. Relentless, tough as nails, strong, skilled.

 

I'm not joking one bit.
We are talking about a 240 lbs HW boxer who threw a great power punch with proper bodyweight behind it, which landed flush on his opponent's jaw.
Pretty much nobody gets up from that, and if they do, they are there for the taking.

 

He was 35 years old and out of shape.

 

There's so much wrong and so much blatant bias in these two posts Pat that someone could spend 2 or 3 hours adding context to them and still not be done.
