    Who was for you the Fighter of the Year in 1932?

    According to Ring Magazine, it was Jack Sharkey.
    Jack had 1 fight in 1932, beating Max Schmelling for the Heavyweight Championship of the World in a controversial split decision in June 21st that year.

    Here are - in my opinion - some of the other strong names that should be considered as the Fighter of the Year of 1932:

    Kid Chocolate: 19-1-0;
    Only loss to Jack "Kid" Berg, beating Fidel La Barba for the Featherweight Championship of the World, along with wins in World Title fights against the likes of Davey Abad, Eddie Shea and Lew Feldman.

    Maxie Rosenbloom: 26-3-2;
    Loss to Dave Maier, Joe Knight and Tony Shucco. Two draws against Bob Godwin. More than two dozen wins in that year, including 3 wins against Lou Scozza - being the second of those wins for the Light Heavyweight Championship of the World - and against the likes of Bob Godwin (3 fights that year), Tiger Jack Fox, Jonh Henry Lewis, Harry Fuller and Harry Ebberts.

    Tony Canzoneri: 7-2-0;
    Loss twice to Johnny Jadick for the Junior Welterweight Championship of the World. Won against Billy Petrolle for the Lightweight Championship of the World, and also amassed wins over the likes of Battling Gizzy, Lew Kirsch, Harry Dublinsky and Ray Kiser.

    Marcel Thil: 9-0-0;
    Ended the year undefeated with wins over Len Harvey and Gorilla Jones for Middleweight titles, along with wins over Joey Taranto, Jack Hood, Len Johnson and Ignacio Ara.

    Panama Al Brown: 14-2-2;
    Loss to Speedy Dado and Vittorio Tamagnini. Draws against Nel Tarleton and Henri Scillie. Wins over Kid Francis and Emile "Spider" Pladner in Bantamweight Title fights, along with another win over Pladner and also against the likes of Eugene Huat, Dick Burke and Mose Butch.

    Johnny Jadick: 10-1-0 (According with Boxrec it's 9-1-0 because they don't refer the first fight against Wildcat O'Connor in January 26th);
    Only loss of the year against Harry Dubinsky. Two wins over Tony Canzoneri for the Junior Welterweight Championship of the World, along with two wins over Wildcat O'Connor and the likes of Pat Igo, Herman Follins, Joey Harrison and Lew Raymond (twice).

    Vince Dundee: 15-0-0;
    Undefeated in 1932, amassed wins over Ken Overlin, Owen Phelps, Billy Angelo, Thomas "Buckey" Lawless and Joe Smallwood, among other's.

    Joe Knight: 19-1-0:
    Only loss of the year against Bob Godwin. Wins over the likes of Maxie Rosenbloom, Owen Phelps, Bob Godwin (rematch), George Nichols and George Courtney.

    Sammy Fuller: 6-1-1;
    Loss to Jimmy McLarnin and draw against Jack "Kid" Berg. Won a rematch against Jack "Kid" Berg for a claimed World Junior Welterweight Title. Got two wins over Billy Wallace and also against the likes of Ted "Kid" Drew and Ray Miller.

    Jackie Fields: 9-2-0;
    Loss to Johnny Indrisano and Eddie Murdock. Won the Welterweight Championship of the World against Lou Brouillard. Amassed wins over the likes of Jimmy Belmont, Pee Wee Jarrell, Henry Firpo and Tommy Herman.

    Midget Wolgast: 8-1-3 (9-1-3 according with BoxRec);
    Only loss of the year against Young Tommy. Amassed draws against Little Pancho, Speedy Dado and Lew Snyder. Achieved wins over the likes of Young Tommy, Tony Marino, Tommy Hughes and Little Pancho.

    Jimmy McLarnin: 2-1-0;
    Loss to Lou Brouillard. Got wins by stoppage over an old Benny Leonard but also over Sammy Fuller.

    Bob Godwin: 11-3-4-2;
    Loss to Maxie Rosenbloom, Joe Knight and Les Kennedy. Two of the draws against Maxie Rosenbloom and one of the NC's against Owen Phelps. Amassed wins over the likes of Owen Phelps (Twice), Joe Knight, Don "Red" Barry (twice) and Doc Conrad.

    Feel free to vote and to comment on who you think deserves the top spot in this great year of boxing.

    Unfortunately the poll only allows to put a determined number of names, thus I couldn't put great fighters such as Jackie Fields, Jimmy McLarnin, Sammy Fuller or Midget Wolgast as options to vote. That said, write in the comment section who, in your opinion, should be considered the fighter of the year of 1932.

    Peace

    PS: Consider that Panama Al Brown fought in France, Belgium, Italy, Uk, Canada and in the USA in 1932.

    Seems like Kid Chocolate had the most impressive year to me.

    Panama Al Brown or Kid Chocolate for me.

    Maxie Rosembloom and Joe Knight had impressive years too.

    I can't think of anyone not listed who had a better year than Brown or Chocolate, but other contenders include:

    1. YCIII, 7-0 including wins over Joe Glick and 2 over Cerfino Garcia
    2. Freddie Miller 11-1-1, only loss and draw to Frankie Wallace who he also beat, so beat everyone he fought that year. Also beat the bigger Joe Gnouly, Miki Gelb and Jackie Sharkey.
    3. Baby Arizmendi 10-2-1, draw to Varias Milling, losses to Newsboy Brown and Speedo Dado, both of whom he also beat in 32, also beat the excellent Fidel LaBarba, Tommy Paul and Young Tommy.

    Canzoneri's losses to Jadick were both bad decisions. His victory over Petrolle was a major fight, long anticipated and convincing.

    In addition to the names mentioned, Midget Wolgast would have a strong case.

    You could certainly find a few men with a better case than Sharkey.

    Thank you for the reply Greg.

    All the names you mentioned are clearly top notch for the thread in question.
    Concerning YCIII, I had him here on my book but somehow I skip the legend when writing this one, eheh!

    Regards.
