This may be a daft question but I want to know your opinion… Is it because they rarely get caught by a good body shot? Or do you think their conditioning is so good that they can power through it? Or perhaps they just aren’t thrown enough by their opponents? Would you say in the past it was more common for a big world title fight to be ended by body shot?
You gotta pick up on your arms to protect your head but your arms are naturally gonna lay down at their sides and one of them is in the way of your liver and the other lays on some ribs and that is science.
Because the elite's have something different inside of them that's what separates them from the rest they choose to dig deeper.
This was the first one I thought of as well. Virgil Hill was one of the top 175ers at the time (don't think elite, very good?) But Roy Jones stopped him with a body shot, Leonard Dorin who was decent was stopped by a Gatti body shot (again good, not elite).
Because the elite will counter body punches, body punches leave you more open. Tank knew he only had to fear Ryans left hook so he could commit more to the body. This is why guys like GGG stop throwing so much to the body when they step up as well.
Maybe I misunderstand something. As far as 175 pound fighters go Virgil Hill is almost as elite as they get isn't he?
because they don’t have other jobs, get plenty of notice for their fights, and aren’t pulled up or down in weight by the opponent
