This content is protected Good interview by Steve Bunce on the current heavyweight landscape. Kinda sucks how guys like Bunce and Jim Watt no longer comment on fights, guys who were very knowledgeable, and most importantly passionate about our sport.
This content is protected I like it how my man Ola has found the formula to keep his career relevant. Fight a couple of winos in Africa, then get knocked out by some up and comer. Rinse and repeat.
6th May in Ekaterinburg, Aleksey Egorov returns after his defeat to Goulamirian against 4-0 Vladimir Zhigaylov. Also on the card you have Evgeny Tishchenko in good fight vs Yves Ngabu. At Heavy Alexander Dorofeev faces Mirzohidjon Abdullaev, While Maxim Babanin takes on tested journeyman Bykhautsou.
Dima just won by KO in the first round. Very dubious lol…seems Shewmaker felt the power and decided to take a dive.
Trilogy with Kudryashov would be awesome. Datsik, Durodola III.... These are the kind of matchups Kudryashov should be looking for.
So, as it turns out, this was not a glitch or bad info on Boxrec's part. Apparently there's this new attempt at making boxing a league sport called "Team Combat League," where the fights are 18 3 minute rounds but the fighters change every round. Hunter did indeed fight both of those guys that night. Boxrec has now made a separate tab on fighter's pages for those fights as well.
This sucks really profoundly. I guess Hunter is no longer serious about boxing. I thought he said at one point he would pursue bridger, and him with the Pole would be a good fight. Too bad.
Yeah I'd say this counts him out til at least the back half of the year, and even then I won't be surprised if he doesn't do anything else after this is over. Dude seems to have just lost his drive. Damn shame too, I think he had enough talent to be a pretty fun "small" heavyweight. Between him, Gassiev and Usyk we could've seen a lot of cool match ups between super heavys and the more traditional types. But since he's been very inactive and is now doing this and Gassiev is seemingly committed to fighting nobodies once a year, it looks like Usyk is the only one that actually still gives a ****, and even he's ended up fighting only once a year for awhile now due to different circumstances and is likely gonna retire within the next few years. I feel like if this league idea sticks around and has some success, which I kinda doubt, we'll prolly see a few more guys like him migrate to this. Dudes who still wanna fight but can't be bothered to train for a full fight or older guys who struggle to do so. Far from ideal, but... It's some form of activity, at least? Better than not getting in the ring at all for over a year I guess. Not by much but as a boxing fan, I'll take what I can get.
Today the IBA World Championship started today in Uzbekistan, and quite frankly most of the competition is really weak, especially at super heavyweight. Although I just noticed they added a cruiserweight division (houmzz would have been proud). Heavyweight looks really interesting however. Julio Cesar La Cruz, Laizibek Mullojonov, Muslim Gadzhimagomedov and Emnanuel Reyes are in it. Sucks that the US, UK, Ukraine, Japan, Australia and etc boycotted the event because of the war in Ukraine. The entire championship basically consists of countries from the second and third world.
