Scoring Round 2 of Tank-Ryan 10-9 Tank is egregiously BAD

Ryan was winning the round—not dominating the round, and the quality of Tank’s knockdown was 10/10 (perfect punch, clean knockdown, and Ryan hurt). Quintessential 10-8 Tank round, no controversy.

That’s only a 10-9 Tank round in the amateurs. Scoring that round 10-9 during a practice round at a judging seminar would get you side eye and a passive aggressive comment from the instructor. Ironically, the instructor would likely be one of the 10-9 scorers from Saturday!

(I’m choosing to assume the 10-10 second round scoring from Dave Moretti was some sort of clerical error, so I’m not even going to be mad at that…because no way in hell.)

Yep there is absolutely no reason that round shouldn't have been a 10-8 round for Tank.

Same thing happened to Kambosos in his match against Teo. Everybody knows boxing judges favor the A side.

Not really, clearly if they were in the bag for Ryan, they'd have given him the Canelo treatment, and had him up on all three cards. Yet he was badly trailing on all three. Hell, only 1 of the judges gave him the 6th, which he actually deserved. I think it's simply a case of, it looked like a flash knockdown without the replays. So they thought he'd done the better work for the previous 2 minutes, and let us not forget, Tank was hurt pretty badly. Whereas Ryan hopped right back up. As far as Moretti goes, that was most likely a clerical error. So I see nothing nefarious or biased afoot whatsoever here. The remainder of their scorecards are proof of that.

There was a case like that in the Moorer-Holyfield 1 fight when Holyfield dropped Moorer in round 2 and someone had it 10-10 which to me is absurd..10-9 sure but a knockdown round scored 10-10? No, not unless both boxers were down the same amount of times in that round.

    That was a legitimate 10-9

That was a standard 10-8 round. As the OP noted, Garcia was winning but not dominating the round and Davis was never hurt or in trouble. I am not a believer in the A-side favoritism stuff but that was pretty reprehensible.

I wouldn't accuse the judges of favoritism, that's way too harsh. It was just a high-pressure moment and the best judges in boxing should have gotten it right.

I scored it a 10-8 round but have no problem with it being scored 10-9
