Hamed didnt beat Barerra though. His best win is who? Kevin Kelly? Wayne Mccallaugh, Cesar Soto, Augie Sanchez or who? Dude ducked Marquez and didnt want nothing to do with a Blown up Tapia. Tank is the more explosive southpaw of the 2 and with better technique as well.
Hamed is probably more athletically gifted while Tank has better boxing technique less prone to making fundamental mistakes. Power is probably about even. They both had crazy KO power.
Wilfredo Vazquez Sr and Vuyani Bungu are noteworthy fighters that Hamed beat. They were both good enough to be in the IBHOF ballot.
Hamed was very flawed and ran into shots even with all his gimmick head movement. Tank is is way more fundamentally sound, always has his feet almost perfectly balanced, knows how to stay out of range and then close in without recklessly lunging in. The result is that he beats taller fighters without getting countered to death while also being very effective against fighters his own height. I'm not saying his resume is very strong as he has yet to fight some of the very skilled around his division but he's more sound than Hamed. Barrera not only exposed and clowned him but retired him and turned him into a heavyweight, lol.
Davis is good, very good, maybe better than Hamed but he hasn't proven it yet, his resume is far too thin to rank him above Hamed.
Vasquez was 37-38 years old, thats not that impressive to me. Prime Vasquez beats him the same way Barerra did. And Bungu? Meh.
In this newer era of Boxing today, best believe he would have been doing catchweights and rehydration clauses for sure.
So was Larry Holmes when Tyson knocked him out. Bungu was a reigning champ who defended his title 13x and decided to move up to challenge Hamed. Take it what you will about Bungu as a fighter but I still consider that a good win on Hamed's resume.
And how much credit does Tyson get for that? You get people who watched boxing dating back to those time periods who still dont give Tyson full credit for that win, mostly Holmes fans but people argue who would win in their absolute prime. Bungu was decent, tbh back then i watched the fight on HBO, BUT as a youngster i didnt really know who he was. To this day thats the only fight ive ever seen him him so thats why i dont really rate him that high. Ill take your word though that hes a good win.
