Having just read the OP more carefully, you're correct, he specifically mentioned dangerous, i'd initially missed that. I cited Emile, not because he was dangerous in the sense of he'd take your head off early (again, you're correct he's not dangerous in that sense), but rather because at WW slugging with him would likely play into his hands. He was huge at the weight, enormously strong, had a great engine, iron chin and good skillset from mid range in. Griffiths could be outboxed, but outlasting him in a brawl would be some feat at WW.
@Greg Price99, everything you said is right on the money. When I was growing up in the 1960s I knew him mostly for the Benny Paret tragedy and for his trilogy with Nino Benvenuti. In the ensuing half century I've learned more about Emile and I've come to think of him as an incredibly unappreciated fighter. He took on anyone, beat most of them and never backed down. He was a truly great boxer.
