Y’know Mac, I’m liking this, and the more I think over it, the more I like Usyk. Obviously George is so dangerous early on and, apart from the power, he has a solid jab that can achieve success and create some openings, but it’s also easy to picture Uysk being intelligent enough to give George those angles, as you mentioned, and George back then wasn’t clever enough to change strategy mid-fight (of course, he usually didn’t need to).

I think maybe it’s a bit too early to be entirely confident in a Usyk win, but right now, I’m thinking he wins a close UD, after taking over in the 2nd half of the fight, at a time when George becomes far less effective due to his hit & miss exertions in the first 6 rounds- and Uysk’s ability to pace himself over the distance (and not get hit cleanly).

I’ve always liked George in a h2h barnburner, but not h2h vs an extremely intelligent boxer, that’s why I’ve that feeling Usyk can win this (or at least come out of a trilogy 2-1).

Ha ha. I just read that in Sick Boy's voice when Renton appears for the first time in 20 years in Trainspotting 2.... Hey, it's only been 10 years with me- time flies eh. You can thank (or otherwise) the repeat of Toney-McCallum I on TV a few days ago for bringing me back- and moving house a few weeks ago and re-reading loads of old mags, as I was packing boxes upon boxes of this 'fire hazard' (and refusing to throw any away). I thought 'It'd be good to have some classic debate again' (although i'm a bit rusty, mind so I'll have to ease my way in). Also, anything to take my mind of Everton's current situation won't be a bad thing!

Hope you're well Mac and great to see some old names still around still.

Very happy to have you back, I hope you hang around for a bit. Bans do get handed out (generally not by me) for writing f*ck that as oppoesd to **** that, so avoid that, but otherwise pretty much as it's always been. There are a couple of new HW obsessives of various different stripes though, that is something that certainly didn't change.

Funny you been reading old magazines, I been reading about the 1990s again in Ring, good times.

Aaah, thanks for the heads-up mate, i'll keep that in mind. I imagine the 'Prime Tyson' or the '67 Ali' types will always survive generation after generation (such was their impact). My 15-year old nephew is in the former camp.

    I'm a bit in shock. You've missed a lot.

Thanks JT. My lad has just joined the boxing club at Liverpool Uni and wants to watch old fights and 'adopt' a style. When I sparred with him I could see a lot of Arguello in his work, on the front foot but patient and mixing up his combos really well. So, McCallum-Toney I was on last week and I said to him that he need to watch these two and admire their incredible skills. So i got the 'bug' again, like you probably did after the exile you mentioned- and things like re-reading an Ortiz-Locche fight report from BI and laughing at a magazine cover of Riddick Bowe saying "you mean I can't keep fighting stiffs", can get the desire back. And obviously did. It's good to be back. Also, i'm serving my notice in work, so have a couple of months of taking it a bit easier (to say the least).

Ha ha, why change the habit of a lifetime...I think my entire opinion of the fight was changed purely based on a cheap 'chicken dinner / chicken Kiev' gag (i'm that easily swayed)! :D I do really like Usyk, mind, and I'd love him to beat Fury (although I like him too).

Thanks mate. Believe it or not, I never really swear unless i'm at the football match (so my old posting style probably took on that version of me)! Also, I'm 50 now, so i've mellowed (a bit).

Jeez mate that's fantastic news. Joe Louis might be one to show him too. If he was tall, incredibly fast with a great jab and power to spare a Greg Page session would have been a no brainer!!!!!!

Bah i should have posted Kiev/Usyk!!!!!

I like Fury if they do ever meet, if they don't it will be criminal.

I still remember that USA vs UK music thread....pretty sure that was the topic.

Yeah some great threads in the past. Our Tag Team vs Rooster was ace, Super Greg vs The Mallard, Lets All Laugh at Liverpool FC (in the lounge), etc. I left when a lot of posters went over to another site (was it called Check Hook or something?) A few posters asked me to go over, but then I just stopped posting really...and within the blink of an eye, its been...

We are virtually the same age and don't those years FLY once you hit 30 odd or somewhere around that age. Rooster is still about here and there but in another ID at present. We had some fun with him not long ago. He got banned for a short spell and hasn't posted since i think. There's been some heated threads every couple of years concerning The Mallard being The Mallard so nothing's changed on that front. Mendoza was banned for good a while back and a couple of years before had one of the great meltdowns for a long ban. mcvey is here but hasn't posted for a few weeks i think. Might be on a holiday. Goo and Bokaj still here among others.

Foreman had alot of issues vs Peralta a Light Heavyweight slickster, but again this was early in Foreman's career and he stopped Peralta in the rematch.

Foreman did also lose to Young another slickster, and even in Foreman's late career he got outboxed by Morrison fighting a defensive fight.

So we do see a pattern emerging that Foreman does have issues vs a certain style.

But.....I haven't seen enough of Usyk at Heavyweight to favour him over Foreman.

Beating a gunshy Joshua who got his soul taken by Ruiz, is a bit different to taking on a beast like Foreman in his prime.
