Is anyone else disappointed with the route Buatsi headed down? I’ve enjoyed watching his rise so far but it looks like he’s just another once a year/collect a packet fighter. What sucks most is the guy is great to watch, just brings a lot of violence into the ring. He fights how he talks but man, all the prime talent in this sport is just being washed away by inactivity. He’s fighting in a week, but the handsome payday and low opponent level is just a recipe for more leisure. I seriously doubt he even wants to become champ at this rate.
One of many. There's great talent in boxing right now, guys with a base of athleticism and quality training that the greats from the old days could never dream of, but they don't really use it.
It's been so long since he fought I'd actually forgotten about him. So yeah, he had promise and a lot of hype around him at one point in the UK but he seems to have lost momentum with his career due to inactivity. His decision not to accept an offer to fight Bivol for £1 mill and switch promoters going from Matchroom to Boxxer was an odd one. I get he may have felt he wasn't ready but not fighting for a year isn't exactly going to help him improve and be ready any time soon. He simply needs to be more active.
What is it with these guys? Is it because they just become lazy and don't want to fight much or promoters can't get him enough fights? which one is it
Buatsi is a good fighter but he does not belong to the elite fighters, I never had a high opinion of him, Bivol and Beterbiev would school him...
Don't ever see Buatsi being top level. He reminds me of Luke Campbell where he has all the tools but he makes hard work of guys he should be flying through
Yet ironically, avoiding that L has derailed his career. Buatsi and his team wanted the perfect opportunity at the right time, which never came. He could have made millions and been a world champ, but he chose to just sit at home. Should have taken the Bivol fight. Even an L would have been a financial W for him and a boost for his career.
He switched because he’s been given the opportunity to fight bums for a little over half a million once a year.
I don’t think he’s as good as them either, but that still isn’t an excuse for all of this inactivity.
For someone who has been a pro for almost six years and having just sixteen fights under his belt is underwhelming to say the least. Buatsi wants to get himself in the best possible shape and financial position to challenge for a major belt, which I can't blame him, since not everybody gets such opportunities. Now with Ben Shalom the plan is pretty simple: Win on Saturday, fight Dan Azeez later in the year in a final eliminator and later on fight for the belt against whoever has the WBA belt (presumably if team Buatsi is still headed in that trajectory).
It's for the best, he should've lost his 0 to Craig Richards He and his handlers know, any ranked fighter at 175 is a potential payday derailing banana peel.
I have seen enough of Buatsi since the Ryan Ford fight where he took punches that no elite fighter would be taking. To know that we have another amateur who isn’t ever going to adjust to the professional game. But can exploit his brand from the amateurs to con promoters into paying him eye watering amounts to fight top 50 opponents once per year. Eventually he will take on a top 15 level opponent and at that point we know what will happen to him. The glass jaws exist crowd on ESB will be having a field day.
