I warned many before the fight who were talking about Ryan’s handspeed as he likes to portray on Instagram thatTank was the quicker fighter: https://youtube.com/shorts/RUeO8X1-uX8?feature=share
He does have fast hands but you also need timing to land on opponents. Its not the same as hitting the heavy bag.
Just goes to show you how casuals and the uneducated keyboard warriors can’t grasp what they’re actually looking at. They see a kid with fast hands and some pop hitting bags and pads and beating mediocre opposition and think he’s the next ATG.
Amir Khan is fast (Hands, timing and footspeed) He also set up his combo's. Ryan Garcia is slow just a quick bag hitter but anyone can be a quick bag hitter.
Tank seldom throws flashy combos So his speed is not as easy to see. Tank’s hands & reflexes are just as fast as Ryan’s But more then that his Ring IQ is levels above Ryan - he out thought him Knew exactly what he was going to do before Ryan even threw. Tank could react & consistently beat him to the punch which only magnifies any speed differential. It was highly impressive.
So let's get this straight. Twink needed to stack the deck so heavily in his favour with a catchweight, a rehydration clause, and send a mole in his camp to beat an inexperienced slow Instagram star with mental heath problems and a damaged rib who literally hadn't beaten anyone other than an inactive Luke Campbell who hadn't fought in a year and a half (and he was dropped heavily in that one) and had never even fought a single world title fight before?
If Garcia was so slow why did Tank spend so much time hugging Garcia like a baby koala bear holding his mother when Garcia let his hands go?
Garcia has excellent handspeed. While Tank may not be as physically fast (ie fast-twitch muscle fibers ect), he processes what's before him much more efficiently and effectively than Garcia and that mind quickness allowed him to all but negate any deficit he had in that department. Tank's power often overshadows his very underrated ring IQ, in my opinion. The kid absolutely has some genuine craft in there, and the fact that a lot of his fans are a-holes doesn't alter that fact
In boxing better to be quicker than faster especially as quickness is in the mind related to ring IQ.
There's certainly some truth to that. Mind quickness is a grossly overlooked and criminally underrated attribute. Cheers!
That plus the constant looking at the referee & getting his attention over nothing every time Ryan landed a punch on him let you know he was uncomfortable at the least.
