The dead certs like Conteh, slappy Joe and other big dangers like Bomber, Turpin, Eubank, Watson etc have all been mentioned. Harvey and McAvoy might shock plenty of people, they were both world class and pretty formidable at their peaks. Maybe the Finnegan brothers too, especially Kevin if he was fired up enough, not coasting and avoided being cut up. Sibson would be interesting too. He was mentally inconsistent and reckless but had a lot of tools to do well, especially if Alvarez took him lightly. Saul is no Hagler, not by a mile.
Heorl Graham beats Canelo. Lara and Trout gave Canelo good fights and to me at his very best Graham is better then both. Conteh beats Canelo and might even stop him. I honestly would pick Watson to beat him Eubank BEFORE Watson 2 would be interesting I would actually pick Eubank Tony Sibson- Think Canelo would win but Sibson was very strong Benn I think would leave himself open HOWEVER if he lands one of his bombs........ Minter- I think Canelo would win but have his hands full.
I think Steve Collins is another guy that gets the nod. For some reason Collins has not stood the test of time well, but he was a handful at 168.
In the mid 80`s Graham was brought in to spar Duran and after 2 rounds Roberto stopped the session as he couldn`t lay a glove on Herol.
He really had that speed and elusiveness about him, mate. He could really make a fighter look silly. Just wish he'd gotten a title before he retired.
Agree Fergy.Herol is one of favourite fighters, currently reading his book.Really interesting, thats where i got that Duran story from
Last I heard he's not in a good place at the moment. Hope that s changed or changing at least. Always came across as a sound fella.
Other than Grahams speed, balance and herky jerky elusive awkwardness, the thing I think might serve him well against Alvarez is how physically strong, crafty and dirty he could be up close. Always spinning, shoving, grappling and throwing opponents about on the inside.
Whatever you can say about British fighters, this island has produced a lot of formidable super middles and light heavies. With no disrespect to Canelo, I doubt that he goes unbeaten against all of them.
Oh and forgot to say, Lara, a poor man's Herol Graham got robbed vs Canelo so Graham would have a big chance, though he did choke on the big stage.
