Was Mayweather past his prime because he couldn’t KO Canelo?

Should he have retired after the Canelo fight since he couldn’t KO Canelo, won only by majority decision and not have fought Maidana and Pacquiao?

He won all those fights, so no, it's obvious he did the right thing by continuing. He's not a knockout fighter, nor Canelo is easy to be hurt.

Mayweather was a small Welterweight. I don't see anyone currently except maybe Biterbiev knocking him out.

Floyd was a ko puncher at 140 and below. He wasn't going to ko a guy who was much heavier and had as good a chin as Canelo. If GGG couldn't ko him, no one aside from Beterbiev can ko him.

Mayweather has not been a knockout artist for a long time. He has made his money by taking potshots and quickly retreating to avoid fireworks. Even if he wanted to KO Canelo, Mayweather does not possess the tools required starting with his brittle hands. Mayweather's game plan is to win on points and avoid getting caught in the crosshairs of his opponents.

I think GGG would have stopped Canelo if the fight had taken place when GGG was at his prime...round 2015.

    Re the OP, complete nonsense.

    "...won only by majority decision."

Floyd won the Canelo fight 10-2 or 11-1. And he won a lot of important fights after that.

Why would he have retired ?

More than 90 % of his earnings came after that fight.

Clearly Mayweather was holding back. The dude almost knocked out Paul by accident and had to hold him up so he wouldn't fall over or else their money making match would've ended too early.

paul hugged floyd .. it was not the other way around and he was not even close to being knocked out it was a blow that he simply resented .. after the next few seconds he continued as if nothing .. floyd when he can knock out he does it when he can't .. he just acts as if he could have done worse, he did not want to

Floyd has never been a KO puncher

He has glass hands with a prime weight of 130/35.

I always thought the point of boxing was to outbox your opponent. Maybe I've been confused.

But according to many here, Canelo should retire because he didn’t KO Ryder and only won by unanimous decision.

And you agree with that? If not, then why start a thread based on a silly idea??
