If it was a younger opponent, I'd say time is working against Zhang. Joe's championship ambitions failed. This time the Zhang Dynasty wins.
Boxing needs to ban these damned rematch clauses. Rematches should be for fights that were so entertaining the fans demand it and the market is there. These rematch clauses are just holding up fighters from taking on bigger more in-demand fights.
Who cares if he activates the rematch clause. What are they going to do? Strip Zhang? He doesnt even hold a belt. Plus Warren represents Zhang as well and Joyce won't be ready in the next couple of months. I say we still get a big chance to see Fury vs Zhang in July, if Tyson doesnt find a way to back out of the fight.
This is a smart business move by Joyce and his handlers, and probably in light of the fury talks. They have no intention to take the fight but have to now be paid step-aside money.
Can't see him winning the rematch. Even tho he was landing on ZZ there wasn't much of an effect on the other hand Zhang landed some big punches and Joyce didn't take them as well as we have seen him do previous. Probably a combination of Zhang having fast hands and being a big puncher himself. Problem for Joyce is he couldn't do anything it was like he'd never boxed a leftie and that's not going to correct itself quickly.
Joyces best attributes is taking punches on his giant skull and a fairly good stamina. Many people thought he couldn’t be harmed, but Zhang cracked him open.
Zhang should fight Fury and WBO mandatory should be vacant and Joyce vs Sanchez or Joyce vs Ruiz should fight for that spot.
Reminds me of when another hyped British Heavyweight prospect David Price got upset by Tony Thompson, and then took the immediate rematch we all know what happened there. Funnily enough Thompson was a Southpaw like Zhang aswell.
Zhang has to be the favourite based on the first fight. Joyce was starting to get into the fight but fact is he never stopped getting cracked by the left hand and you can't rule out his eye swelling shut again, we saw Chris Eubank against Carl Thompson both times suffer horrible swelling to the eyes, fact is if you keep getting caught you'll take damage. Question what does Joyce do differently? Will he adopt a high guard? Will he come in heavier this time? Will he find an answer to Zhang's southpaw left hand? Whatever he does, he has a steep hill to climb, because as the Usyk/Joshua rematch showed it's hard to try something new and reverse a loss, especially such a one sided one.
Considering the solid loss he suffered and how r*t*rded he approaches boxing throughout his entire career, I don't see Joyce doing any change that will give him even a slight chance of better performing in a rematch. Joyce wastes his time, being 38, and also wastes Zhang's time. They should both move on to the next good opponent.
Until the Joyce v Zhang rematch is signed off its just rumours,as well as the fact both these fighters and Fury are all in the same stable,so anything is possible.Warren knows the biggest money maker is Fury v Zhang in China and if he can make this fight happen before the rematch he most certainly will .
It´s a contractual agreement. If Zhang doesn´t uphold his end then Joyce will simply sue. Good luck getting a big fight with such a lawsuit hanging over your head.
