I had a book when I was a lad that chronicled the UK's greatest fighters. It was an encyclopedia and covered some pretty obscure guys like Pedlar Palmer and Joe Bowker and went up to around the 80s I think. For the life of me I can't find another copy as none of my searches come up with what I remember. Does this book ring any bells on here?

In NYC there is the strand book store. It sell old, used, out of date,, long forgotten books at used book prices. I think you can look them up online. I would check around Canada for an old book store too! They should carry the same materials as the UK.

Ask Clay Moyle, aka cmoyle. He is the most knowledgeable boxing book guy.

there was/is a small book titled British Boxing, Denzel Batchelor...

that might be the one your thinking of, I don't think it went up to the 80s, the 60s maybe. I had it, but I sold it along with my 100 years of Boxing/British Boxing Collection off to the Hatton's.

I found History of Boxing in Britain by Frank Butler published 1972 - don’t know if there were revised/updated editions. I don’t know if this is the one you’re after.

This isn't gonna be any help lol, but I'm sure I remember the book myself. Did it have the history of bare knuckle champs, quite a fair bit of it?

Thanks I will check it out but think it was more likely an 80s book. This could be good as well though!

Was it just British fighters or did if feature British fighters largely as it was by a UK-based author? I had one from the library (late 80s) by Gilbert Odd which was an encyclopaedia of boxing, fighters listed in alphabetical order (IIRC) so a decent biog of them all. Harry Mullan's Great Book of Boxing around the same time featured lots on the likes of Palmer et al.
