Toney was a box of tricks who could make anybody look bad in places, but I would expect Lewis to beat him very decisively.
Lewis boxes behind his jab and effectively nullifies a game Toney. I don’t think Toney would get stopped, too defensively savvy.
This was in response to "Great fighters KO the unstoppable". Lewis didn't KO the unstoppable. Of course, I guess by this standard, nobody is great.
Fair enough. I still don't think it's impossible Lewis stops Toney, to say the least. There's not enough sample size at Heavyweight to make Toney unstoppable for mine. If he fought Vitali and cruised the distance i'd take pause. Vitali doesn't hit near as hard as Lewis but he'd certainly put some serious pressure on Toney. He'd actually be one of the worst matches for him thinking about it even without the one punch power.
Where do Toney's feet have to be to land anything? And he also has to punch upwards for a tall guy like this. Does anyone really think Toney moves his feet enough every minute of every round to put himself in position to even throw a punch?
Right. So just asking---where do Toney's feet have to be? And James would not throw punches or fall in or go off balance to land. Then, he also has to punch upwards. I just cannot picture him in any position to land effectively. And Lewis has good footwork and mobility so that makes things even worse for Toney.
He probably wanted the paydays. Both would beat Toney easily and inside the distance. Lewis inside 6 rounds and Vitali mid to late stoppage for me.
A fired up Lewis is about the worst opponent for Toney I can imagine, and stops him in 7 or 8. But I don't think Lennox would go for it and see him winning a UD over Lights Out.
