Dubois joins McGuigan

Dubois was at the gym for a couple of weeks, but Mark called time on it based on the father's interference and over a few concerns about Dubois ability to apply new ideas.

 

Does he look to you like someone who can?

McGuigan is a really good trainer and would have improved Dubois who clearly needs alot of guidance. This is a massive setback for him. He's not going to do much with Don Charles.

Thanks mate. I can't imagine Tibbs abiding by a father who thinks he knows best. I think he binned Dillian when Dillian wanted Tibbs to start filling in spreadsheets etc

 

He has that look about him that he cannot. Very vacant.

 

Just thought of a father/son manager relationship that has worked very well, especially financially, and pretty good so far as a pro which is George and Jim Kambosos (I only thought of it because Jnr was in the press today due to his new promotional deal). Jim secured his son a fortune for both Haney fights. Mega paydays and he’s def been an overachiever in his career to date.

 

At various times Richie was managed by his dad, brother, Mickey Duff and Cod Eyes

 

Really like Richie, always great to talk boxing with. One of the nicest guys in the game.

 

I know him through fishing. He came in the tackle shop where I worked with Andy Hunt the West Brom striker. He bought loads of gear and a friendship was struck. He also opened a gym right by where I worked and I'd spend my lunch breaks in the gym with Richie, Lennie and their fighters

 

Good shout. I remember after Kambosos beat Lopez, he literally went on a media tour in America straight after, he was everywhere. His purse for the first Haney fight in particular was very good with a 70/30 split. Certainly cashed his ticket in.

His dad seems a top fella too.

 

That sounds quality mate, I bet you heard some great stories. Every time I see him in I always stand by that IMO he would have beaten Joppy the night he lost to Keith Holmes. He’s so humble he doesn’t agree lol

 

I remember that too, he’s done really well bearing in mind I thought he lost a close decision to Lee Selby over here. Good guy.

 

So aside from the father thing, Tibbs couldn't apply his training to a fringe world contender and British champion but is willing to train porn stars?
