Barry McGuigan - Lennox Lewis Would Have Destroyed Fury.!

Win, yes, destroy, I doubt it. But since Barry claimed Whitaker-Chavez was a "difficult fight to score", it hasn't always been easy to take his opinion too seriously.

 

I absolutely agree, though I wouldn’t say destroy. Lewis would’ve done what Wlad should have and rid us of this mummer champion we have before us- absolutely. I think he’d look a lot more fierce on the inside then Wilder and send Fury to the moon with an uppercut at some point.

 

I think he'd be cautious early on and wouldn't be as willing to trade as he did with, say, Michael Grant, who had the height advantage on him. I can see Fury having some success in the first half of the fight myself, even outjabbing Lennox. I like Lewis in the 2nd half, when he starts to turn the screw (ala Vitali; Bruno fights) and step up the pace. But if I had money on it, I bet on it going the distance due to Fury's durability, with Lennox's getting a decision due to more clearer rounds (i.e. a couple of 10-8s due to knockdowns).

 

One of those ex-fighter wants a guy to win beforehand and, no matter what happens, his scorecard will reflect this. See also Gary Mason giving James Toney just two rounds vs McCallum (1st fight).

 

It would be a brutal beating for Fury, he would quickly realize what fighting someone with ATG skills is all about. Lewis could win absolutely any way he chose & unfortunately for the gypsy king, Lennox seemed to become more aggressive with the big dudes.

So yes, agree with McGuigan, LL via destruction.

 

Destroy is too strong a word. Fury is not Michael Grant. That said, Fury wouldn't have any significant physical advantages over Lewis in terms of height or reach. Also, Lewis always seemed to be freakishly strong and was certainly a much more devastating puncher than any version of Fury. But speaking of Grant, Lewis was always very aggressive with taller fighters - the Grant, Golota, Klitschko bouts spring to mind. He was also very versatile and capable of adapting as a fight went along so Fury wouldn't have an advantage in that department either. If he switched his game plan up, so would Lewis.

It would have been a good fight but it's Lewis UD or by late stoppage.

 

Lewis, late stoppage for mine. He would grind down Fury in a way that neither Wlad nor Wilder could.

I doubt Fury would even have got in the ring to begin with. Lewis would win and most likely a stoppage after breaking him down.

 

This. Very little,if any,doubt in my mind that Lennox would beat Tyson but I feel strongly that the latter would be durable enough to last the course.

 

I agree a motivated Lewis destroys him but let's be real Fury would never fight him, he didn't even want to fight Joshua let alone fighting Lewis.
