Oh great, a Federal Boxing Commission. You thought boxing was corrupt now, lets put the U.S. government in charge of all the matches here. And I'm sure all the professional sports leagues in the U.S. wouldn't do anything to prevent that from happening? And what kind of ceremonial role would that be? There'd be some 85-year-old Arizona congresswoman tapped for it out of the gate, and protestors wanting to know why trans boxers aren't making as much as others. Teddy Atlas has wanted to be a federal boxing commissioner for decades. Teddy doesn't seem to want to become a boxing judge himself, which would be a helluva lot easier, but he "really" wants to be in charge of the judges in the U.S. I'd say, between the Olympic boxing matches he's called and the pro fights he's called, Teddy Atlas has accused every last judge in the world of being corrupt at this point. Nobody can have a difference of opinion. Everyone who doesn't agree with Atlas is taking a bribe. Atlas is a joke. Want better judges, Teddy, show us how it's done and become a judge. See how long it is before fans are calling for YOU to be investigated because they didn't like your scorecard. But he gets more attention with his podcast, and he gets more attention point the finger at everyone else, so why would he do that? He's the ultimate media *****.
Loma became a rag for many people in the boxing world, yet the fangirls fall into this trap and use their statements as "you see" - where was the "boxing world" in the first two Golovkin-Alvarez fights (especially Adalaide Byrd) and not only? Why nobody pushed Feldman for giving 115:113 to AJ in his second fight against Usyk? Even when a reporter asked him about, he was fast to go and replied to "ask the supervisors" - FFS, like it was "the supervisors" who scored it that corrupted!! Those very same fans will turn Loma into a "sore loser", which is already on its way...
I was thinking we need online judging where guys get ranked for their live scorecards. Top rated guys get put into rotation where 5 guys get put on as judges on fightnight. Their cards get judged and rated by the boxing community ( ex boxers, journalists, fans) and it influences their ranking which in turn leads to furure fights they are put on and therefore their pay. They also dont need to be at fights, just base it on muted tv performances like everyone. That way thecpower of promoters decreases and corrupt judges get eliminated and pushes people forwards that care about the sport. We need to ger rid of the current judging structure though.
Online judging? Go to a fight. Your eyes will be opened. You can feel the punches sitting within feet of them, unlike on television or a computer screen. Watching someone get knocked cold and hit the floor in front of you is a little more impactful than watching videos on a screen. Boxing isn't a video game. You do need to be at the fights.
There's a striking number of fans that don't even get the rules, but never ever felt a glove on their hand, little all on their face. You can read it in their comments and it's then when you realize it's a lost cause to argue or even explain for good.
This is true. Years ago I picked up a freelance writing gig and Sat ringside at a regional card. I thought I was going to be sick. The sound of the punches hitting a human head makes the violence more real. Scoring is a lot harder than it looks on TV. Another issue I realized that night is how often your vision is obscured. You don’t have a camera to help, and very frequently the fighters are turned away or the referee is in the way. You really do end up scoring more with your ears out of necessity. That’s why I generally defend judges altho there are exceptions. Pretty clearly some of the NV judges need to be retired. Just too old.
Id actually like to see 3 judges ringside, 3 judges in a skybox, and 3 judges offsite scoring off the same feed everyone at home is watching. Each judging set turns there individual cards in and a winner is given for that set. then the overall winner is determined of the 3 sets collective winner. more or less just a fantasy. sounded good in my head.
Most fights that take place aren't televised. I just counted, and I believe there are 67 professional fights total in the U.S. on Saturday. How many judges and referees are needed for those? To those who are upset with scoring, how many bad scores do those refs have to turn in to not be used anymore? (Someone having an off night can lose their standing on one show.) Where is the next group of judges coming from to replace them? How many bad scores do they get before they get bumped? If the federal commissioner is just a random political appointee, like many are, would they even know if a bad score got turned in? If Teddy Atlas is the commissioner and he's bumping judges if he doesn't agree with their cards, how many just start voting however they think Teddy wants them to vote in order to keep their spots? People involved in the sport who don't like the scoring and former fighters need to start doing more officiating, like they used to. And fans who love boxing need to get involved and become judges, instead of sitting on the sidelines complaining.
Not a bad idea to have a national committee but certainly nothing to do with the federal government. Also make a rule that judges for championship fights can’t be from the same country,
Had sort of the same experience once, I had really good close up seats as a friend of mine was fighting in a jr. middleweight fight. Others in our group were there but they were sitting about 30 yards back. I scored the fight 4-5-1 against our pal. I thought he'd lost a close fight and he ended up winning a close SD, 6-4,, 4-6, and 5-4-1 . My other pals sitting back where they were scored it 7-3 and 8-2 for our buddy! . They told me they thought he won a clear cut UD. I told them you didn't hear the shots he was getting hit with, he took some serious leather but it was close and I was trying to be objective
