Fights you can’t watch (for all the right reasons — please read OP before posting)

I thought this might make an interesting topic, inspired by @Mike_b with his thread on fights you’ve watched five or more times.

But let’s PLEASE start with a caveat: Let’s not make this a list of fights where someone died (understandable that most of us don’t want to watch those, at least not after we’ve seen them, like Mancini-Kim or Pintor-Owen) or any involving major or grotesque injuries.

Instead, which fights can’t you watch for whatever reason beyond those morbid ones listed above. Maybe they’re too boring, maybe the styles just don’t mesh for you, maybe you plain don’t like one or both of the participants … heck, maybe you lost your lunch money (or your mortgage payment) betting on the ‘sure thing’ and losing.

So please list the fight AND why you can’t watch it.

    For me:

Dokes-Weaver I and II: Two different reasons here. The first one is just the dumb stoppage (although it was after the Kim death and it’s understandable for a ref to have an itchy trigger finger when someone isn’t throwing back in the wake of a tragedy). The second one … it’s just boring as all get-out. I’ve tried and tried to watch it and I can’t get through more than a few rounds — even if I fast-forward, it’s like boring boxing on a loop. Pug ugh-ly.

Page-LeDoux: Greg Page made an ass of himself in this fight, beating up a man who is past it and cannot do anything about it, and also showboating and taunting. It’s like an adult picking on a crippled kid level bad sportsmanship. It’s one thing to do the Ali shuffle with Joe Frazier smoking in front of you, another to do it to someone who can’t fight back.

Tyson-Bruno I and II: Frank’s scared to death and Mike is not very sharp, throwing one punch at a time with very little timing or accuracy. It’s just bad boxing all the way around.

For some reason all that comes to mind are the big guys. I may think of more.

What fights are you just not able to watch, and why?

Bowe vs Golata: The 1st fight between them is one that's hard to watch because Bowe came into the ring super fat and got a beatdown that resulted in more brain damage. I loved the riot at the end though haha, especially that one guy who threw a hammer fist on Golata's head. He deserved it for all the low blows he was throwing.

Tyson vs Bonecrusher Smith: This is one I've rarely watched because all Bonecrusher did was hug him as if Tyson was his lost son or something. He took a beatdown the whole fight and at the end just when the match was over, he went on offense and wobbled Mike. If he would've did that from round 1 he might've been able to beat Mike.

huge David tua fan, he was my favorite fighter as a teenager as this was before Manny Pacquiao and Nonito donaire as the first massive draw Polynesian/ Pacific Islander.

My cousin Saad, just like Saad Mathew Muhammad lol, still calls me to this day "Mike Tua" because of my bald head and big belly lol. Anyway I've seen most of David's fights coming up I personally don't think he folded against Lewis, I believe Lewis was the better fighter and Tua did "show up" it's just that he was outclassed by the superior boxer.

David has a ton of kayos, most of them I'm ok with heck even the Ruiz ko doesn't really bother me lol. But what did bother me at the time, in fact probably before I watched tua Ruiz possibly. I could never watch the David izon vs David tua match. Something about watching a man get slugged for 12 rounds, then in the twelveth round he eats a Tua barrage of punishment and surcombs to the ropes. I can't remember if it was tko/ stoppage by ref/ knockout but to me it was simply a brutal barrage of punches like I said and Tua just hit him too hard with one of those left snapping uppercuts. I felt sorry for the boy. His concussive head snapped back as Roy Jones Jr earlier says "Tua has all the tools to become heavyweight champ of the world."

I think Tua did exceptionally well, he beat some good fighters, earned fame, folklore, a few fringe titles, some personal hometown rivalries, but I'll always remember him first by his killer instinct. Man if buzzed, one was quick to get the crap kicked outta him. His loss to Lewis, I heard through the grapevine that there were tons of keyboard warriors typing "and the new!!!" A million times in Lennox Lewis fight night, but after the decision the forums were empty/ you could hear crickets lol.

I guess I'll start with a relatively recent, obvious choice. I can't watch Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather again. Although it was a semi-interesting bout it was also dull and pretty devoid of action.

Another fight I am happy to have only watched once was Roberto Duran and Kirkland Laing. It is the saddest I have ever been watching a fight. (I didn't see Holmes-Ali). Roberto had just lost to Benitez and he followed it up with a lackluster, uninspired performance against Laing. Laing won a split decision but, to me, Duran definitely lost. I was sure that was the end of Duran and it made me so sad to see him go out that way. Little did I know Duran had numerous great fights left and would continue to move up the ATG charts.

A lot of Khaosai Galaxy’s fights, actually southpaws in general ruin the watch value of a fight. I find Khaosai so boring even for a big strong KO artist, I enjoyed the one fight I thought he lost in the Castro one.

Dwight Qawi vs Holyfield 2. Never been able to watch this beyond one attempt, I’m not interested in seeing Evander KO someone so easily he had so much trouble with, similar to his fight with Moorer the rematch would’ve been better to see live but blow outs don’t do it for me.

I only watched Pac-May because it is essential viewing if you’re a fan, it was for all it turned out to be the fight of the age… I watched it once, I saw what I expected to see and have never thought about it again.

I’ve never seen Louis vs Charles, I have too much admiration for Louis to see him picked apart by a master and a killer like Ezzard.

Leonard vs Hearns 2 ( the rematch) …only because the Hearns fans always try to use this fight to argue that Hearns was a better fighter than Leonard..or that the first fight was a fluke …neither of which is true

And when you add to that…Marvin Hagler’s salty , bitter ringside commentary…it’s all just too much

    Emile Griffith-Luis Rodriguez 1-4.

    Once was very much enough.

All PPV's, they are much too expensive, however I wait until after the fight to see them on You Tube.

My thoughts exactly, every fight is just Khaosai looking for the straight left and plodding around bullying his man into opening up.
