Shame because this is the fight I most looked forward to but it has to be pulled. What kind of nonsense is this?
Was looking forward to this fight but realistically no way should this fight go ahead. I remember Corrales vs Castillo 3, and Castillo coming in 3-4 pounds over the limit and I now think in all probability that this fight ends the same way if it goes ahead. The board should intervene here, and it's another example of Hearn knowing ahead of time but doing nothing about it. So unfortunate for Wood.
Hearn can cancel fights when one of the main event fighters doesn’t like someone on the undercard but not when someone fails a drugs test or weighs in a full weight division heavier than his opponent.
Was looking forward to the fight. Lara is a brilliant talent but that’s a disgrace. It needs pulling.
Agree with what everyone is saying, was really looking forward to the Lara fight but no way should this go ahead with Lara at this size. Was just watching the weigh in there and you can see some fear in Leigh's eyes. This could end up a mawling.
This fight is going ahead and the promoter who is ‘mates’ with all his boxers couldn’t give a **** whatever happens. Couldn’t care less. Vermin.
It’s Leigh who is determined for it to go ahead. I’m told Lara was 2lbs heavier than the check weight for the last fight and the board wouldn’t let him attempt to shift it as it’s well know he tends to get it off but it is dangerous. The guy was eating pizza after his weigh in for the last fight. He doesn’t do it scientifically or professionally by any stretch and I do think he would have actually made the weight but the board would not allow it. Are the board correct in their position yes. Have others done exactly the same for non championship fights. Yes. Leigh is in a position whereby the sole reason for taking this fight is because he truly believes he can outpoint Lara and all of his negotiation position and value is in him being world champion. He sees the money on the table for a Warrington fight if he wins. If he does not take the fight. He is a voluntary and as such will unlikely be called as a mandatory and will lose his shot. The belt will go to a fight for kholmatov vs ford or if Lara stays in the division Lara. Leigh then has to get back in line. He still has the Warrington fight but both coming off losses it’s worth around 30/40% of a title defence against him. He has the conlan rematch but conlan is unlikely to give him that as leight wouldn’t give him the shot. If he does he is taking it on likely an 80/20 split. Conlan is more likely to take a routine defence and then possibly the Warrington, Ramirez or Vargas fight himself. due to the belt becoming vacant and Lara not being in control it puts it out of Leigh’s hand if he wants his big paydays to set himself up. That was his plan. If he can stay out of danger tomorrow and take Lara deep. He sets up the Warrington fight with step aside being paid and kholmatov fighting the winner. That nets him well north of a million
Surely the BBOFC would step in and cancel the fight if deemed too dangerous. Interesting how posters on here are blaming Hearn and ignoring the role of the Board on this one. Sets a dangerous precedent. Also, seems like the Board never told Wood that Lara wasn’t making the weight until an hour before the weigh-in when Lara was told on Wednesday. The Board don’t come off great in this and it makes you wonder how they have dealt with other issues like the failed drug tests of Khan and Benn.
Hearn put the fight together and is promoting the show. He can clearly pull fighters off the bill as shown with the Cameron/Scotney stuff. That’s why he’s getting the blame. He’d rather get his £££ than protect one of his fighters. Blokes a scumbag. As for the board, they banned Benn from fighting Eubank because he’s a dirty cheat. What more do you want them to do?
