Don't be so silly. Neither of those guys especially a hard worker like Spence would be competitive against Floyd.
Mayweather doesn't fight people that have a good chance of beating him. Let me start by saying I think Mayweather is a superb boxer. He could teach a trigonometry class a thing or two about angles. He is so good defensively he can leave opponents dazed without even throwing a punch. That being said Floyd never cared about his legacy more than he cared about Floyd. Floyd wasn’t a fighter, he was a businessman. Mayweather played a game of chess when it came to matchmaking and chose the path of least resistance. He waited six years so that he could face a much less supersonic version of the Pacquiao who tore through Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito. The Oscar De La Hoya Mayweather jr faced had lost two of his previous four contests (and one of the wins, against Felix Sturm, was widely disputed). Cotto and Shane Mosley were also past their peaks when after years of trying they finally stepped into the ring with Mayweather. Floyd didn’t unify more because he chose the path of least resistance towards his goals which were to make a ton of money and retire undefeated.
Today's roster is WAY better in 135 and 147 divisions. At 135, Stvenson would be his hardest fight. At 147, both Crawford and Spence are extremely hard opponents. Ortiz Jr and Jaron Ennis are also way better than Andre Berto or Marcos Maidana
I agree. The lightweight, junior welterweight and Welterweight divisions are much stronger. Also think Charlo would be a tougher fight for him than Canelo. The 130 division was way stronger in Mayweathers time
Not one of the current active fighters beat prime Floyd. Prime Floyd was special. Love him or hate him, that’s undeniable. Sure, there were some match ups that could/should have happened - but it’s likely he’d have won those too… So Crawford or Spence are going to beat him? The same fighters that went life and death with an almost retired Porter?
Based on what? beating Maurice Hooker and Thomas Dulorme? Out of here. That's the same as me saying Adam Azim would beat Ricky Hatton, none of them have proved anything.
Styles make fights. Crawford and Spence would trouble Floyd. Enough so that he would be ducking and dodging them till he was sure he could win.
I dunno about that you had the likes of Stevie Johnston, Jose Luis Castillo, Paul Spadafora, who could easily beat anyone at 135 today. Welterweight during Mayweather's era also you had the likes of Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Manny Pacquiao, not sure current lot are better than these fighters, they certainly haven't proved it yet anyway.
Dont see how the Lightweights back then were better than Tank, Loma, Haney, Shakur. Welterweight Mosley was past his best. But its close between todays Welterweights and the Welterweights back then
