Currently the most boring fighter in the UK and clear winner for an honorary membership to the Hughie Fury Club.
I think Jacks a very good fighter, decent craft, good jab, has a bit of power, yeah he’s can be a bit rough in there, but it’s a fight, there has been far, far dirtier fighters out there than Jack, even active fighting in the UK. The guys has suffered crap promotion, inactivity, and honestly getting a bum decision in Taylor’s home town, if anything he must be mentally strong, for persevering as really he should be a world champion by now.
I can’t comment on anything past Gethin or Nurse which were the last fights I saw of him up until he fought Taylor. That performance was not boring it was absolutely superb.
I know in sport sometimes you have to nullify an opponent and can’t always play into someone’s hands (Mourinho back in the day comes to mind) but when he got a point deducted the first thing he did straight after was put Taylor in a headlock. That’s not boxing.
I can’t remember much holding. I may have to watch this fight again because it seems like people are rewriting history in terms of how close it was and at the time I don’t remember people moaning about holding or anything. All I know is I went into the fight as a fan of Taylor and was made up with Caterall’s performance and wanted him to win. I thought it was superb.
This content is protected 46.40. Ref deducts a point from Catterall and Catterall immediately responds by getting him in a headlock. Good performance but not the robbery it was made out IMO.
It's interesting isn't it how we get a narrative constructed after like Catterall was robbed. Taylor underperformed but headlocks and negative tactics shouldn't get you a decision when it's close. He's a good fighter but he's awful to watch. The Manc moan gets tiresome after two years.
It was a blatant robbery. Even in a sport where the money fighters get the benefit of every doubt this one stuck out.
Go back to Ritson v Vazquez, Campbell Hatton v Martinez, Zelfa Barrett v Kiko etc and Sky just brushed it under the carpet in 5 mins as it was a home fighter getting the decision at the time. I can remember watching the first Katie Taylor v Persoon fight back and Nelson was saying after ‘well she did lose but sometimes you need a bit of luck’. I genuinely feel Taylor/Catterall was closer than all the above mentioned but most people will disagree with me and that’s fine.
absolutely, one of the things I like about (and learn from) on this forum is the exchange of opinions. I never take it personally when someone thinks I'm wrong. I often am. You're a good poster, not been on here long but already contributing well. It's good for the forum. I still think Audley was robbed against Haye
True. Although there's a 'people in glass houses...' feeling from me with my Lincolnshire inbred farmer twang. Which is unfair on me. None of my family are farmers and nearly half of them aren't inbred. Just ask my mother/sister.
If it makes you feel any better, Dave Moretti had Harrison 20-18 up going into the 3rd round on his unofficial Vegas card.
