To a point. If you don't have Rocky, Joe Louis, and Muhammad Ali in your top ten you should stop following boxing and follow ,say, pickleball.

Absolutely. Anything I said about Rocky in that crazy Liston thread should not be construed as questioning his greatness in any shape form or fashion, and Ali and Louis are no brainers.

Rocky was iconic. As fars as brands it's Dempsey, Ali, Louis, Tyson, Foreman, Tunney, and Rocky in no particular order.

The key here is ‘greatest’ as opposed to ‘best’ or ‘top 10 H2H’ or some other way of looking at it.

And the criteria of what that means is in the eye of the beholder — it even says that was left up to the voters to define.

The two greatest IMO reckoning would be Ali and Louis in some order or other. But I’d rate, say, Marciano and Dempsey higher using ‘greatest’ than I would if I were trying to pick who the best heavyweights were. Johnson too.

For me the #1 will always be The Greatest Muhammad Ali. People tend to forget we were denied of seeing him fight for over 3 1/2 years of his prime due to what were farcial political reasons accusing him of draft dodging. Imagine what he could have accomplished in those 3 1/2 years. When he came back he was no longer the lightening fast Ali & had to re invent himself but still ruled the roost till that dreaded disease took him from us. He should have been allowed to retire after Ali/Frazier 3 . For me no one comes close to him

What would your top ten look like? Two of the panelists were Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. They actually had the benefit of actually beating up people for a living. Other panelists included Teddy Atlas and Don Turner. They actually have or had the benefit of training people who beat up other people for a living.

If it wasn't for all the other stuff he would have been just a great boxer and not one of the most recognized men to have ever walked on this planet.

Their top four is exactly mine except that I have Lewis #3 instead of Johnson.

I dunno. Tunney beat Dempsey and Greb. Event though Greb was a middle, that is still pretty fantasic.

Carpentier....Loughran....Gibbons...Risko...Levinsky...that's not a bad career at all!

Ali Louis and Rocky as top 3 after that the order doesn’t matter
